Have the banks got 8 weeks to reply?!!!

Okay, sorry if this has been asked before, I've looked and can't find a definitive answer.
Have just sent off the first letter to the bank asking for my charges to be refunded (was rather pleasantly surprised to find out it was about £1500 when I was expecting about £300 !) - and have given them the customary 14 days to respond - should this be 14 working days or just 14 calendar days ?
Thanks in advance :-)0 -
I have sent my letter to the bank claiming back charges and interest dated the 2nd May 2007. According to the info on the internet i should give the bank 14 days to reply before sending another letter threatening court action. Well I spoke to the bank and they have said because of the huge amounts of claims they have, processing my claim will take up to 56 days and that is within the FSA guidlines. I just wanted to know if this is true. Or are the banks just delaying the process. Should I just continue with court action or wait the 56 days. Thx.0

Yes its true i'm afraid , according to FSA guidelines they have 8 weeks (56 days ) to reply .
However its only a guideline . Send them another letter after the initial 14 days is up, giving them another 14 days before court action . then if you've heard nothing by then then by all means issue your MCOL .
That's what i did and i recieved my refund within 7 weeks of first request for refund0 -

The FSA guidelines refer to making a complaint, not to the legal process of getting unlawfully appropriated monies returned.Hamsters have no tact and diplomacy, nor do they want any.0 -
Has anybody actually given their bank 56days to reply to the 1st letter they sent in a receive an offer before that time was up, Has anyone found this way of dealing with refunded bank charges a whole lot easier and alot less stressful than taking them to court.
Thanks
Chrissie

Standard letter from the bank, you follow your timescale as set out in Martin's article, have a read of the Reclaim Help Thread which is linked in my signature0

I am in the same boat with Lloyds tsb do you mean 14 days as in the letter asking for charges or 14 days from receiving the letter confirming that they are dealing with your complaint?0
