I have a (Backup) Halifax account with no overdraft, which Ive never had a charge for in the past 21 years, tlast week my balance was £30.84 and an item of £31 was debited. For Halifax to NOT PAY 16p, they have charged me £35!
Now I know that everything is going through the high-court, but I cant afford £35 and I hardly think its fair to charge £35 for 16p! Is there anything I can do?0 -
Go into your branch, explain and ask them to refund it.

Hi, just wanting some advice. I have recently decided to try to claim back charges.
I phoned Halifax CC asking for a list of charges. The guy I spoke to was really nice (which was odd for the Halifax) and said it would probably take 40 days. That was fine. Within a week I received a letter saying that they had reviewed my complaint and although they didn't agree with what the OFT were saying they were prepared to offer me £203 as a goodwill gesture being the difference between the £12 and what I was charged.
I was surprised to get this offer as I hadn't actually asked for charges back or sent any letters.
What do I do? I have no idea how much my charges would have been. They could have been pretty scary actually. So do I be happy and accept or do I plod on and look for further info to see what I was actually charged and then try to get it out of them?
I'm in a DMP and they are one of my creditors so I'm delighted to have anything knocked off the debt.0 -

The decision is yours. It depends on your personal circumstances.
It sounds like they have anticipated your claim and made an offer. It may be worth getting a list of charges to confirm there are not more than anticipated.
Many people have been successful reclaiming the whole charge not just the difference amount above £12, but this would take longer.0 -
Many thanks for your reply Nickmack.
As I was in foul form this morning I thought I'd give them a ring. I got quite a nice lady. That is 2 nice people I have encountered in the Hellifax. Most unusual.
I gave her the reference number and she asked if I was calling about the claim. I said I was and was interested to know what my total charges were. She said they were £650. She has now escalated my claim. At the end of the day I don't think I've anything to lose. The debt I have with them is in a DMP so I would be delighted to get this money paid towards them.
I have a whole string of other people to chase now.0 -
Hi, this month i went over my agreed overdraft on two occasions, but on the same day the account was back within the limit. Today i have recived two letters from the halifax telling me i will be charged 2x £ 35 charges! Can they do this?0

check the T&C's online, some banks do allow you the rest of the day to fix it.
check the letter again, doe sit say 'if this is not rectified on the same day'???0 -
They are gonna charge me, i have the dates on the letter the money will be charged0

Still call up. Lloyds charged me years ago and 6 months later sent a letter saying they were refunding it as it was an oversight. i should not have been charged as it was the first time it had happened.
But yes, they can charge you. But you can still try and get them to change their mind.0 -
Many thanks, just rang them as i have not gone over before they are gonna cancel the charges.0
