Halifax is a Scottish Company (HBOS), based in Scotland...

Well, atleast that's where it's registered?

HBOS is registered in Scotland, but Halifax is based in and trades in England and as such you can claim in any English County Court

<!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->Hi , can anyone answer this for me? I have 3 seperate accounts with Halifax and 1 with the bank of scotland. As these banks merged to become HBOS can I claim for all 4 at same time with one letter or or they have to be treated seperately? Dont want to pay £40 if only need to pay £10.
    Thankyou

I recently had a charge of £35 applied to my account by the good old Halifax (lovely people)
This made me Overdrawn so they are applying another charge of £28 in June 08.
When I send the letter asking for a six year list of charges, are these O/D charges also listed or is that something we can't claim for?

Please see the Reclaim Help thread (link in my signature) for a list of charges.

I don't know the answer to that but here is a further matter for your consideration. Halifax was an "English" bank and BOS a "Scottish" one. The claims in Scotland are restricted by one less year to those in England so will you be restricted with your BOS claim?
  • Hello everyone,

I have followed the procedures with three letters the first asking for bank statements, second informing them that I want a refund of the bank charges, to which I received a reply saying that they would look into it and I would receive a reply no later then 4 weeks.

4 weeks came so I sent a letter befor action to which I received a letter saying.

    "Thank you for your letter

We have asked the Financial Services Authority to suspend the normal timetable for dealing with unarranged overdraft bank charges complaints.

Until the banks legal proceedings with the office of Fair Trading are concluded we will not issue or respond to any further communications received fromyou (or a chosen representative) on this matter.

we can assure you that your complaint has been registered and will be resolved as quickly as possible."

I do have an overdraft of £600 that I owe £550 but it's not unarranged, they offered it to me????

So any idea's of what I do now???

I've just been stuck with bank charges for a d/d which never got paid. However, I paid the money to cover it in around dinnertime, the same day, surely they've messed up here? I'm going in tomorrow anyway to complain, I've got 2 current a/cs with them, as well as an ISA and 2 saving a/cs, with quite a bit in. Will threatening to close these help my case? It's only 15 quid they've stuck me for, but it's the principle.

...I paid the money to cover it in around dinnertime, the same day,
How did you pay it in?...branch counter?...ATM?
    ...surely they've messed up here?
Possibly not, according to your T&C's...

    Xmas Saver!
The money has to be in the account the day before the money is due out, lucky you only getting stung for £15.00, I just had a £35.00 charge, and £20.00 charge for going over my overdraft.
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
