Hi i got a letter in today from halifax confirming they have recieved my request for statements and aim to deal with it as soon as possible, that they are dealing with a lot of requests of the same nature but they have confirmed that i will receive a response no later than 40 days from when they received my original request.

Is this a standard reply, i sent it off a few weeks ago now.

I received my third letter from the Halifax today confirming that no further offers will be made to me as they believe thier charges are fair and advise me to take the matter up with the banking ombudsman.

Well they might indeed think its fair but i know its unlawful  this must be just another form of tactic to get me to phone up and beg for the previously offered money.

My heart is saying stick it to them but my brain is saying take the money.

Its not easy standing your ground.
  • i asked to claim my charges back from the halifax for 4,000, i got a letter today telling me i can claim nothing as it more or less my own fault. (cheeky)

i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if you have carried on?

im really worried and wonder what to do.

    thanks:confused::confused::confused:

Yes, this is business as usual. You need to call the number at the top of the letter and ask politely for them to submit your claim for re-assessment.

Following reassessment, you'll likely get an offer for 50% of your claim in a few weeks.

Then you ring them again and say you're not happy with the offer - you want all of it. Most people at this point get offers of either all or all minus interest.

If you don't get an acceptable offer, you can then move on to the ombudsman/MCOL process

Just to say that it appears that the re-evaluation team are only authorised to offer 75% of your claim now.

10 weeks after my first letter i phoned the bank today, telling them I have only recieved their standard first letter saying the Bank charges are fair blah, blah blah...I asked for my case to be re asessed and the guy on the phone (Stephen) said it already was (I had phoned last week) and that I should hear from them soon with an offer,:j I asked him what the timescale would be and he apologised for the banks tardiness and that it should only take them 14 to reply... Oh well, I'll keep an eye out for the postman in the coming days. Unfortunatley I think I'm going to have to go through the whole process again as they have hit me with more charges in the last 3 months - which I woudln't have if they didn't charge me in the first place

Well after requesting £2242 (plus 708 interest that makes 2950), having the 1st knock back letter my re-evaluation arrived in the post this morning....

£1063.50... not even 50% of the claim amount minus interest.

Called Halifax and spoke to 'Chris' who has forwarded my details onto my claim handler Lisa D to contact me back... anyone had any dealings with her?

Also their letter states in full and final settlement.. Can i accept any amount offered over the phone then start MCOl for the remainder providing I advise them of this (also send a letter in confirming my actions "as per our telephone conversation"?)

    any ideas anyone??

WOW again.. phone call from Lisa.. not alot of haggling needed to get up to 75% however thanks to the way they have treated me over the years Im pushing for closer to £2000. They've had £700 in interest so that plus the £242 would give them close to the actual charges!

Here we go with court route.. MCOLs just been processed.. fingers crossed..

anyone else out there going thru a MCOL with hellish Halifax?
