Hi there, new to the forums first off hello everyone hope everyone is well.
Ok so I was recommended to this website after complaining to friends about the amount of charges I have probably paid over the last few years. Anyway I am with Bank of Scotland and have started the first phase now of requesting a list of default charges and such like for the period dating back six years. They have agreed to this and are currently in the process of sending me six years bank statements (72 roughly i think lol). Ok so the question i have really is after recieving the statements what do i then do? I have read many posts but i am quite unsure about who to forward letter 2 and a copy of my statements (with charges highlighted) to, I have found a few address's of BoS and am unsure about whom I should send it to. I am also considering posting a copy to my local branch as well as the main one. If anyone knows or could help id be most grateful.
Also roughly how long does the process on average take in regards to recovering monies from banks with this method?
MAny thanks look forward to your replys.
Just thought I would give you some info as I have just successfully claimed from HBOS.
You will receive a letter stating they are dealing with your statement request, however this may take longer than anticipated due to the volume of requests. If they do not meet the deadline give them a call, this tends to take you up the list.
Once you have your statements go through them and use the Charge calculator on this site and decide whether you want to add interest this calculator will do it all for you. (Print 2 copies)Then send the 2nd letter with a copy of the calculator, (not your statements) wait for their reply. Send the 3rd letter and await a response. Do not back down, they will send you a letter telling you the charges are in your terms and conditions and that they are lawful.
After I sent the 4th letter saying if I did not receive a reply I would take them to court, they repaid my £500 + back into my account.
I just followed the step by step instructions on this site, I must admit it was a bit worrying but don't give up.
The whole process from start to finish took approx 7 weeks, but well worth it.
Hope this helps!0 -
Can you do this twice? I claimed £800+ from Hellifax last year, now I want to do it again, not bothered if they close my account as I've switched to Natwest now.:beer:0

How far down the process are you? If that's your first letter you've sent to them then send the second one giving them 14 days notice, chances are they'll ignore that one, then send the stronger worded one and bam you'll get an offer, whether or not you accept is up to you.:beer:0 -
had a letter from Halifax offering £437 of a £784 claim. OH wants to accept, but i've just rang them and asked if thats their best offer. Have i done the right thing? Will they ever withdraw the offer and would we be left with nothing?0

can anybody advise me what to do next have had bank statements back and worked out what they owe me with interest and sent it back .we had reply within a week saying charges was justified which we ignored have now sent a letter asking for repayment and gave them 14 days to respond or we start court action on the 19th of july the 14 days are up i rang halifax today to make sure they got letter and when they was going to respond. her answer was because of the vast amounts of people they had 8 weeks to do this i said i put it in the letter about responding within the 14 days or we start the court action she said no the banks have the right to reply within the 8 weeks is this true or should i start the court action0

Just stick to the plan - tha is your time table not theirs, i sent them the last letter threatening court action and then lo and behold an offer was made, I am now in the bargaining stage, using the going to court as a threat!

You can phone Halifax and ask for your claim to be re-evaluated, read this thread.

However if you say no and that you are going to go to court they will then say fine and won't up the offer as it is then out of this particular teams hand.0 -
Well i've had 24 hours to think upon the 75% offer not including interest and i have decided to decline it. The guy i spoke to, Mat, was very understanding and stated if he could offer me more he would under my circumstances, well talk is cheap and i just said thanks anyway.
I'm not happy or proud, but i feel so strongly about the dealings with the Halifax in the past and how i was made to feel utterly worthless, this is what drives me to a full refund.
I may well be sorry for doing this but i can't miss what i never had, can i  .0
