Am I the only one with a little bit of sympathy for the op?

I guess I sympathise with the fact that a £40 item has gone missing, which is definitely frustrating. Maybe I'd even ask the buyer to wait a little longer (although the packaging sounds like it has come adrift from the actual item). However, I don't sympathise with the POV that says, 'Make the buyer claim, I'm entitled to my money'. I'd always co-operate with someone in this situation as I know how frustrating it is at the other end when the buyer has done absolutely nothing except pay for something which they are entitled to receive. I also know that there are some people out there who only send when I have gone to dispute (happened to me last time I bought from a third party on Play). So - really - there is not much excuse for not doing everything you can to reassure and work with your buyer, not find some way to weasel out of refunding 'cos you're skint and you need the dough. The only reason you had the money in the first place was because the buyer paid you for a coat. If they haven't received the coat, you're responsible for it.

Since the OP can claim from RM, they won't end up out of pocket, so the best thing usually is to refund the buyer and claim. Holding someone to arbitrary deadlines or asking the buyer to claim is going to, in this eBay climate, precipitate a dispute and poor feedback.

  • Getting this back on track - and please just leave out the arguing..

Update is he has moved from dispute to claim straight away. I messaged him saying I will check with his sorting office tomorrow and that we should wait until tomorrow night for me to refund and he puts it to claim...

I get an ebay message from the username saying they "didn't like what I put in the message so they are putting to claim". The I get another ebay message saying that "messages have crossed i writing to you my eife doing paypal". I can only transate that to fact him and his wife are dealing with me seperately through the same account....

So now what. It seems these people are going to give me a neg irrespective of what happens now and I feel that is unfair as they have never even mentioned a refund, infact I mentioned it 1st tonight straight away they lodged a dispute. Seems very unfair.

  • Seems very unfair.

    On whom. ?
  • please stop de-railing, for gods sake!

Why should I get a neg?

    a) I posted the item in secure packaging, firmly double wrapped.
    b) It went on time
    c) It was recorded delivery and I kept the tracking number, also gave this to him
    d) I communicated with the seller straight away he stated it hadn't turned up
    e) When the dispute was raised today I said to him I would issue a refund but would he confirm he would give me decent feedback?
    f) It goes to claim on the basis of his wife not liking what I put which is what she told me on ebay. Then her husband comes back on an hour later and says wires crossed as his wife was on paypal...

No way I should get a negative. Plus I read items are only officially lost after 15 working days and so far there has been just 6. If I refund him I bet he'd happily just keep the coat no fuss whatsoever.

In other words you basically told your buyer you would only give a refund if they would guarantee a postive fb.

    1. Ebay will refund the buyer by the end of the week.
    2. You will get a neg

Nothing else you can do now, if you had handled the case better you may have prevented this.
It is quite simple, refund your buyer, fill out the rm claim form and send it off with your cop. You will get a cheque in a few weeks with the full item amount and postage.

Makes no difference if the buyer does then recieve the coat-the buyers morals are not your concern you will get your money back from rm.

Its normally buyers guilty of feedback extorsion - now the sellers are fighting back.

Thats like Tesco saying we will only refund you if you appear in one of our adverts saying how great we are.:rotfl:

No one is de-railing, they are just giving the comments that you refuse to see are correct.

Can you show me this Ebay link?
and so far there has been just 6.

Granted, it is early but you havent best placated your buyer judging by what youve written here
If I refund him I bet he'd happily just keep the coat no fuss whatsoever.

How do you know this? Are you saying your buyer is dishonest?
  • I will message the buyer and explain I will only refund him after the 15 working days have passed as per Royal Mail rules on lost post.

Which will guarantee that you will get a well deserved neg.
No decent seller would make a customer wait 15 working days (which could be 3 full weeks once weekends are taken into account) before issuing a refund.
If the coat hasn't arrived after 10 days then there is a good chance that it won't, and this should be long enough for your buyer to wait.

I`m sorry but your handling of this situation has guranteed you a neg and low stars across the board no if ands or buts.
The claim from rm is between you and rm it has nothing whatsoever to do with your buyer.
Your buyer paid for an item and expects one of 2 things.
    A, prompt delivery
B,refund if item does not turn up in a resonable timeframe

For me personally i`m quite happy to wait a full 14 days after posting before pressing for a refund . However if after contacting my seller i get the response you gave your buyer i would and do go straight for a paypal inr.
The bottom line here is if you had handled your buyer in a less accusatory and evasive manner you would probably have had longer to chase this up without upsetting them.
As it stands if you think all buyers are scammers and you obviously do by your tone and manner in dealing with this then maybe online selling isnt something for you..
Also forgot to mention once your buyer escalates any dispute you will only have about 10 days to refund as it will be forced upon you if you dont.
