CP Plus - Is it a scam or shall I pay?

Oh I see. I'd heard a little about this activity. I've been really bad with some bronchial ailment and to open this letter first thing this morning just put the tin hat on everything. I'm going to ignore it.chris_p_bacon wrote: »Well, I was going too....:D I was on the CPplus web site about to pay but was nervous about giving them my debit card details so I Googled CPplus to see what came up and was directed to this thread and your post!
If you read through the last few pages its all quite reassuring, (thanks everyone!) CPplus are just trying it on. The only downside is I expect we will both receive demands for money for the next 50 years. :rotfl:0 -
All the landowner can sue you for is the amount it costs to park for 2 to 24 hours, which is normally between £5 and £7.
The agent can not sue you for anything as they never suffered the losses.
If I ever get in power, first thing would be to axe charging for motorway service car-parks, they are unneeded and cause hazards
Yes I've been thinking about that. I suppose it constitutes "trespass", and as far as I know the remedy for trespass in English law is something like a 1p fine so long as you didn't cause any damage by trespassing.0 -

Pepipoo forums explain the legalities and options very well:
http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=46975Thanks for that. I kinda thought it was safe to ignore it, but I just wanted to note a similar case to mine to be sure I could do that. The last thing I would want is bailiffs arriving and/or any damage to my perfect credit rating. But I've noted this couldn't affect ones credit rating.
...and also they explain the CCJ/bailiffs worry situation very concisely too (an old thread but still relevant):

I work for a private car park company, won't say which one but in truth these so called fines are not enforcable the only way these companies can get money out of you is by raising a private civil action which they won't do because they have to prove that you were the driver of the vehicle in question which they can't do because the Data Protection Laws prohibit them from taking pictures of people in or around the vehicle. Therefore they have no evidence - In short ignore the charge notice and any subsequent threats that you may receive. Private parking companies rely on people being frightened by using words like CIVIL, ENFORCEMENT and DEBT RECOVERY to intimitate their victims. Empty threats and empty words.0

Nice of a PPC employee to post and confirm that our advice is right; thanks for taking the time to post.
But your sentence in bold about having to prove who was driving, is out of date and wrong unless you are in Scotland or Northern Ireland where this doesn't apply:

HTH but why on earth do you work for these scammers? There are other, real jobs?! Ones that put something back into Society or provide an actual service...PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
