Yesterday I received a visit from a debt collector representing PS&P to collect £121 'owed' to them after my son, using my car, parked at Leeds Met. University over 14 months ago. I ignored all the original letters they sent to me demanding payment and though they had gone away. However over the last couple of months I have received a number of letters about 'amount owing', 'increase in amount', 'threat of court action' and finally visit from their 'debt collector'. I told the lady yesterday that I was not in 'debt' to this company, that I was not driving the car at the time (although refused to say who was) and that she had no legal rights to demand any payments from me or, as the letter she handed me implied, value goods in my house. She implied that the matter had been dealt with by the courts, when I told her I had received no court summons, she then said that it would be and the bailiffs who came next would be far nastier than she was. She told me to phone the company to sort it out before it turned nasty, but I am loathe to speak to these robbing b******. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
PS I have tried to copy and paste the letter in without any luck.

Get the letter up, as per peter's instructions above.

You really ought to be thinking about a serious complaint to the Office of Fair Trading. These numpties need stopping in their tracks.

I see the cheeky so and so's even charge a quid if paying by debit card.

Did they make any attempt to stop you closing the door or 'cross the threshold' like a court baliff would?
  • Thanks for the reply s. Hope the link below works

    That is an absolute disgrace.

We occassionally get door to door sellers and charity collectors knocking who get a polite thanks but no thanks.

This would get nothing more than an open door, go forth and multiply, shut dooor.

    This must be harrassment.

    That's shocking.

No court judgement, no court warrant, nothing. Debt denied - its it still only an 'alleged' debt.

Seriously, it needs a letter to the Office of Fair Trading, explaining that no court claim has ever been issued in respect of this alleged debt, so no court judgement exists, the debt has been denied to this company by yourself, and yet they are threatening to call again and either receive payment or value chattels for removal by bailiffs.

See if others have anything to add, but you need to complain to the OfT regarding this.

Would "Herbie" from the bailiff helpline be interested in this?
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Maybe watchdog would be interested given their previous piece on private parking firms.

She made no attempt to enter, but it felt threatening, she sad she was the nice guy and that if I didn't pay or sort it with the company then the ones who turned up next would be nastier!!!!
