Apologies in advance if the inverter doesn't work;)

The bulbs are around the same price if it doesn't

One more thing. Some laptops have a screen button. If depressed on some will toggle 1 of 3 modes. Mode 1 is lcd screen only. Mode 2 is mirroring- lcd and 15 pin video port, Mode 3 id 15 pin video port only. Some laptops are clever enough to know when a monitor is plugged in, while others are not, so inadvertently pressing the keys may turn off the backlight and these are how some Dells work .

can be done in windows too via other keys http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_to_switch_from_Laptop_to_external_monitor_by_keyboard_shortcut

Thank you, I need to take a look at that once I finish typing this post.

After putting the laptop back together, there is a problem with my keyboard. It was working fine when it was apart (I had to use it to login) but when put together again, the letter a works fine. Some others work when pressed but only once, but many are not responding at all. What have I done to it?

I wonder if anyone is around to answer.

I took the keyboard off (well not completely) and saw that thing with lines on. It seems intact.

Are you all purposely trying to make me take off every piece pf my laptop? :rotfl:

yes, did not think you broke it but tugged one side so those fine lines aka copper wire tracks were not perpendicular any more (or slightly pulled out on one edge) and just had to be put back in straight.

By the end of this post you will be a qualified engineer! :)

Just do not go around and tug at all the bits next time :)

I didn't touch the keyboard area at all so I'm not sure how that happened. But I did tug at the screen wires. I now have a wire which is sticking out near the power button at the edge of the laptop so I can't click that part in but I'll leave that for now. :)

if you have wires hanging out of the case, take the cover off again, and push them inside carefully, to avoid the possibility of damage, especially in the hinge area

I'm not sure how to describe this but I'll try. The picture I posted earlier (which was what I wasn't meant to be looking at) where the power button is. I removed the plastic covering thinking that is what I was supposed to look at. There's a black and white wire leading off from the power button. The white wire goes left, then down behind that part of the laptop and up into the screen. I'm not sure how that happened though as the white wire has to be there (it turns black where the back part of the laptop is, into the screen). It's supposed to be tucked into the part where I took the plastic covering off, I suppose (where the power button is) but I don't know how.
