If all the wiring connected to the inverter board and motherboard connectors seem ok, it's pointing to the inverter board, but impossible to be 100% sure without another screen to plug in, as it could be the backlight.

Is that another laptop screen or any screen? How much would the backlight cost to repair?

Being honest, I don't have any idea what I am doing. Looking at page 90, do I have to go through steps 1-12 in order to find the power connection?
    youtube is your friend :)
I'm sure they show how to replace inverters.

I meant another laptop screen, if you have an external screen to plugin, i would expect it to work based on your diagnostics.

If you are willing to risk spending £15 to no avail, I'd go for the inverter first, especially as you have it in pieces already

You have checked that the brightness is up on the screen?

As you are now well on the way to becoming a laptop repair technician, and have the screwdrivers, the power connector part is £10 if it fails again

How do I check the brightness is up?

I fiddled with the wires and booted up the laptop and twice the screen came on, and a white light at the back, but of course turned off. Didn't try to move it at all.

usually a key combination, eg Fn + up arrow, there should be a brightness symbol on the key - this is just a double check before you spend any money, your symptoms sounds like inverter, or backlight, or wiring for inverter/backlight.

Double check that all wires/connectors going from the screen to the motherboard are firmly pushed in, and not crushed in the hinge mechanism

Lol. I don't think I could do soldering or whatever it is called. Thanks for the training! Quite fun.

    No difference.

Has anyone got a laptop to spare in the west mids? :)
I can take it apart and put it back together again thanks to the training here.

Don't really have money to spare to test. Not sure which one to go for. Inverter or no inverter. I need to trace a laptop screen. Will any old working one do?

you wont generally find much soldering going on, most repairs are swapping one part for another, and they just plug in.

£15 inverter is cheaper than hours of diagnosis/repair in a shop.

I'm going to go for the inverter. Let's see how that goes. Thank you for your help, I shall pay you for that somehow! Now I may be back soon. Need to put thr laptop back together though as I use it with the external monitor.
