BBC Wacchdog might be an option? I know they are quite anti Paypal and Ebay as it is :) Worth a try I'd have thought - explain that because of this error you are going to be going without food/water/heat etc :)

I don't advise this because its risky but maybe for the transactions of larger value you could contact the people who bought the item and ask if you gave them a refund through paypal could they send you payment some other way, cheque or wateva. As i say i don't advise it, there would be nothing stopping the buyer just not paying once you have refunded and then you would be totally screwed, just an idea.

I have to say I'd consider this - if the individual transactions weren't for very much. I'd get on the blower to each buyer, explain the situation, see how sympathetic they seemed, and take it from there.

Anything to give paypal a nice big 'up yours!'

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

Don't know about others, but I usually find Watchdog a bit of a lame duck at the moment. Nicky Campbell doesn't really interogate companies, more like sits them down and tells them not to be naughty!

No but sometimes if they do a feature on a company it gets the offending company to actually get their finger out and investigate the case properly - which if they do they should be able to verify this is not money laundering and not anythign dodgey. OP can provide proof of ID and address and has done so as was all proof of delivery (which is why I think they are thinking money laundering as she has recently moved address...) - if they were to investigate it properly and not just determine it on the whim of who ever then I think they would re-consider opening the account...

eBay aren't great with the press - particularly when they're in the wrong, or seen to be - and a lot of the time they'll not respond or just say no comment.

Ebay don't speak to the press at all. All their media enquiries / comments etc are dealt with by a PR company.

Someone was saying about the possibility of it being theft, could you not press on that? Could keeping your funds infringe a few laws as you need that money to get by, and they're keeping it tied up for 6 months? Good luck, it'll get sorted!

Just and idea that might help. E-Bay run sellers courses ( I attended one in Bristol about 6 months ago) and i noticed the other day that there is one in Coventry soon. Anyway when I went on mine the head of PayPal came to answer questions. He had a very hard time. Why dont you find out if there is an e-bay course near you soon and enquire if PayPal are coming. If so maybe you can go along and confront him. Re your credit history I think you will find that there is no connection with this problem. Just keep trying and keep your chin up.

This is the issue that makes PayPal feel they’re not regulated at all, and can do as they want. PayPal are no less likely to make a mistake in this area, or get given erroneous information from a third party, than any other company. I wonder about making a request under the Data Protection Act. That’s a long way short of going to court. Although, I wouldn’t put it past PayPal to acknowledge their decision was based on erroneous data, but make no change to the action they’re taking.
