How do we agree an exchange date? Will we be asked by the solicitors when we want to exchange or do we just tell them a date. I think we just need searches to come back and get a damp issue resolved but just thinking ahead.

They will ask you as well as understanding what others in the chain are expecting then a mutually agreeable date will be confirmed. When I appointed my conveyancers I told them when I expected to exchange and complete but I'm dealing with a developer and buying a new build so a bit different.
  • Well I'm still here in limbo land, not even exchanged yet the completion date was due next Thurs. It's been put off until tomorrow morning
I'm left with 4 working days to book removals redirect mail ect, think I will be ring my sol in the morning to change completion dates.
I'm not having a mortage but my buyers are, can anyone tell me how long they need from ex to complete to get funds

I feel your pain rustyhead. I am due to exchange tomorrow and complete on 14 December but I really can't see it happening. This is so stressful and there is nothing more I can do - just need both sets of solicitors to talk to one another.
  • Well caeler looks like you get 14 days to sort yourself out, I'm having kittens, it's only me in the 3 partys having to book removals ect.Buying a empty house buyers living with friends/ parents.
Will be on the phone at 9am putting a stop on the exchange will need to rearrange the completion date. OH as just said if it dosn't happen by lunch time tomorrow we have 3 1/2 working days to book thing up.
    How can anyone do that!
Think I will upset people but I've no choice

I don't know either. I can probably leave it a tad longer to exchange and keep the completion date. I've already checked the removal company still has availability for the date I have in mind, royalmail must need at least a week and BT services even longer..... nightmare.
