I'd also been bought a presie from work colleagues and I plucked up the courage today to ask if I could return it....
I took a deep breath and was honest, and said with my current financial state and goals I would really get a lot more from putting the money to a practical use - so to either buy me supermarket cards or get a cash refund... £50 is like 2.5 weeks shopping on this challenge for me!!! I got a text back and they said it was fine!!! I feel bad still but proud too... Am holding out and staying true to myself...I just hope they really do understand that I appreciate it - LOTS!
:TWell done you! Not sure if I'd have been that brave. When I left my previous job they gave me a cheque as there wasn't time to buy me anything. I did kinda promise to spend it something nice for me but £120 paid off my debts gave me a much nicer feeling:)
Another NSD here for me but will be doing the weekly shop tomorrow.

Hi all.
Its been a busy few days for me, had 3 job interviews yesterday, and 1 this morning
i got the feeling that 1 of them didnt go very well, but the rest went fine, so fingers crossed!!
Was a bit annoyed, as i got on the train and got to the other side (a town about 20miles away, where i was supposed to have another interview), only to step off the train, and for them to call me and tell me that the interviewer is off sick. 30mins before the interview!
So i wasted £15 on a train fare! Grrrr! Could have kept that in the bank.
My older sons school called when i was on the way home, and asked me to pick him up as he wasnt very well, so it worked out OK in the end i suppose.0 -
Oh drat.
Had an unexpected, and unfortunate, spend day today.
My DD was sent to hospital to see a consultant for tests this morning.
We were there for almost 4 hours so car parking fees for my friend who took us, drinks and something to eat, only some toast. I didn't have time to make anything this morning to take, and didn't expect to be there so long. My mind was on other things, and we didn't sleep well worrying.
It all ate into my NSD target for the month.
Sadly we have to go back tomorrow for more tests, but I'm prepared this time. Making some butties tonight, fill the flask, and take a book or couple of mags as I've read nearly everything of interest in the waiting rooms in every department we visited today.
I'm getting a lift there (no Bus Fares or car parking) and another friend will bring me back (ditto regarding fares and fees).
I know worrying about a NSD isn't important in the scale of things, but it a great divertionary tactic to avoid thinking about what is really on my mind.I divorced my First Husband on Religious Grounds:A

Personally, I'd be giving them a phone once your home / sorted out & asking about reimbursement of the costs - a lot of places allow for reimbursement of interview costs.
Even if this particular one doesn't, if they've cancelled at the last minute (and certainly after you'd bought the ticket) I'd re-contact them and ask for them to be paid ....
Only thing that might make me wait would be if they mentioned rescheduled?
If so, I'd probably wait until the new interview date and then raise it after that;)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

You are right - the NSD is not the end of the world and I think real life will take over now and then. I really hope DD is okay and things go well tomorrow... its sounds serious so you are all in our thoughts! I am amazed that you are even bothering to do all you have ( butties / mags / lift ) in the face of such an awful day ahead.. but I am sure if you are at ease with things DD will be a little more relaxed.. or is she the one calming mummy..?
If we fall short of NSD days I don't want people to worry.. I will get another challenge on the go ready for you to tackle because remember - its only to make us think about where the money is going and allow us to remember to plan next time.........which you clearly are!!
Well done.. but I am sorry your day was so awful in the first place!!WantToBeSE.....So i wasted £15 on a train fare! Grrrr! Right 3rd time lucky! Have started typing this 2 times already!
Firstly, just wanna confess to a spend day yesterday. Because I was staying at work I had brought in a jacket potato and some cheese for my evening meal but I went to Costa Coffee instead. A couple of good workmates were going and I didn't want to miss out on the chat, plus I wanted the company whilst I waited for the awards ceremony to begin at 7pm. I bought a hot chocolate for £2.70 (expensive or what!!!) and also a bag of crisps and a sandwich from Marks' for £3.15. So all in all I spent £5.85 - Yikes!!!!
I also want to add my name to the chorus of voices wanting to continue this in December (PLEASE SIGN ME UP KAT!!). I'm enjoying being fiscally responsible and less consumerist. It's also having added benefits like giving me more time with friends and family as I'm not at the shops as much. In fact I want to continue it for the next few months.
I've been exhausted today after getting home at 8.45pm yesterday and then virtually going straight to bed. I did manage to get a contract for marking GCSE in January, so that will come in handy for the mortgage deposit. This time I'm definitely going to save it, instead of going on holiday with the money I got from it in the summer. I also sold another book on Amazon, for about £3.00, so it all adds up.
I reached 250 miles on motormate yesterday so that's another £25, plus my mum owes me £40 so I'll get that tomorrow but will probably use half of it to fill up the car with diesel (gotta go down to Sheffield on Saturday). What I've got left, part of it will go on some flowers for a friend I'm visiting on Saturday, and a thankyou card - as she saw me through a bit of an upsetting epxerience a few years ago. The remainder I will put in... drum roll please... my SECRET SOCK - which I have yet to choose from my sock/tights drawer.
Finally, KAT here is the link for the free cinema codes link:-
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4071029
You have to be quick because they soon go and you need to register with Show Film First, and then you just have to type in the code provided by the thread and voila, free cinema tickets are delivered to your email inbox. If you live in London, as I know you do KAT, then sometimes West End shows come up too.
Also I'm up to NSD 10, going for 11 tomorrow. Onwards and upwards everyone!0
