Just had a very nasty shock indeed which is going to give me the kick that I need to join in this challenge after all.
My son was rushed into hospital at the beginning of this month, and needed an emergency operation. Although he was only out of action for a week, I took time off work. Unfortunately, as I'm a teacher, that time was unpaid leave, and I've just gotten my October payslip and I'm already £175 short before I even start.

So, sign me up! Aside from the inevitable dd's that go out through the month I am aiming for £180 shopping (that's for 2 adults and 2 kids). I have 2 nights out booked during November (one kids party and one grown ups night) which I'm budgeting £20 for as lots is already paid. I also pay school meals for dd which are £10 a week, which I'm not willing to change in this weather (warm meals etc). As for the Christmas fund - there is £60 left in budget which I may or may not use in November.

My aim is to get to the end of the month without being too damaged by the missing cash and to get to December fully able to celebrate my pay rise that should be coming by then (backdated to September as well).

Can you give me a number Kat? I'm going to need all the help I can get with this one...

I'll have a look through my banking and total up income and expenditure for next month, see what should be happening and I'll post back.

eta: I've done my budget - and if I'm as tight as is planned then I should have a little less than £200 left at the end of the month. Which really would be lovely and well worth a month of frugal living.

Yeaaah I'm brave enough!! Please, sign me up.

Food spend for month £60 although this might be a bit ambitious as there's not much in the cupboards (2adults and a 4 year old) but I'll do my best :)

    Good look fellow MSE-ers!!

WELCOME to you!!! You are marked and numbered!!!

I hope your kid is okay though but total bummer about losing money - my friend is a teacher and finding it just as hard!!!

"Frugal" is the the word on the street.... back to the good old days...

We CAN do this if we pull together..

Onwards and Upwards... you CAN do it!!!

    I'll join in.

My food budget for the month is £150 for four people. ..........

............I think I have Christmas pretty much covered already with bits throughout the year and what I intend to make. I will be buying some white beeswax this weekend so that I can get my Castille Soap batch on the go ready for presents in December...........

I have a cupboard of ingredients (I don't food shop as such) and so we have bread for the month, sugar, general flour, spices etc. I have enough meat for another 2 weeks and veg comes fresh weekly from the local farm. A batch of 24 banana muffins were cooked yesterday (with the black bananas the kids wont eat) and we have a coconut and lime cake from yesterday too.

Drinks arnt such a big problem. We brew beer and wine in the house, so it seems to have lost it's alure :-)

Good luck everyone. Mine goal is to finish this month with zero overdraft. It currently stands at £975 and needs to go.

I am superbly impressed with your home brewing and the raw ingredients... I managed bread and cupcakes last night... more bread in a day or so as its so yummy!!!

Sign up for that "make £10 in November" challenge for your overdraft as well..:):):).. nothing quite like going mental and doing everything at once. I managed £5 in October so £10 will be pushing it - but am going to do it!

I definitely need to get some vegetables from somewhere.. my landlady has noted Tesco reduce veg 4 hours prior to whatever closing time they have - our local largest store is around 7pm and she picked up some perfectly okay broccoli for 10p.. that's 4 days of soup right there with some potatoes and leeks ( 15p )...:T

  • Thanks Kat :D
Two number 18s though - shall I take 20? That's usually an ok sort of number for me.
