Whereas comet people probably couldn't care less and spend their days comparing SCARTs to USBs or something.

When it comes to apple products, and there are no special offers anywhere else, the best place to go is their own store.

OP's experience makes me think I'll never buy in-store again. If he had done it at a distance, even from Comet, he'd have had DSR protection.

Well, phones comet cs this morning and spoke to a polite and helpful guy who understood the situation and said best was to speak to the store and put me through

After phoning the store they advised to come in and hopefully they could help, they advised they'd happily take this one back and could offer either a gift card or a preorder on the iPad 4 which means coming back on on friday. They said they were unable to simply issue a refund. They wanted me to keep hold of this one and go bal Friday, I insisted they take it back now because they were happy with it as it was so I don't want to take it for another couple of days then be told no (assume that was good idea ?)

So they now have the iPad in the store in the box and ate preordering me the 4 Friday morning

to be honest they didn't quote a delivery time but i cant see them taking preorders in october for a March release

according to the above images from the apple announcement the date of release is 2nd November . with preorders from 26th so sounds correct



do you think I was correct to insist they take that ipad off my hands today in the box rather than me just returning with it Friday, I just felt that if i kept it and went back Friday it would basically be back to square one, whereas at least because they now have the ipad back in their store and have accepted it back as new I should have no problem with the pre-order

Interesting line in the link that quotes a 6 month product cycle. Keeping up could be rather expensive.

Steve I would consider yourself lucky, if you go to the Apple site all mentions of the iPad 3 have been removed with the only iPad available to buy now being the iPad 2. For the unsuspecting consumer with little knowledge (Apples favourite customers) if you went on the site today and purchased a iPad you would end up buying the iPad 2 the only one available.

I'm not sure why you didn't just accept your money back on gift card/s.

I personally would have taken it back and taken a gift card/s for the value of the IPAD 3 (assuming they are giving you the full value).

Then when the 4 was out, I would go along to Comet with my gift cards and pay any extra towards the 4.

You couldn't have been desperate for the IPAD 3 in the first place as that isn't what you went shopping for, so another week or two won't hurt.

Sorry, i was probably pretty vague , they initially said they may be able to do it as a gift card, but they then said because that item is not now on sale they cannot refund it as such through the till, so between them they decided the best option was to basically do a direct replacement obviously with a preorder on friday . so basically I have a receipt which all I need to do is take in and preorder, so essentially I suppose that is as good as a gift card, especially as they have taken the ipad today so it is no longer in my possession .

So, they have your money AND the goods?!!!

If you are happy with that then fair enough, it's not something I would do if I could avoid it.
