Ipad 3 BOUGHT TODAY ... now the ipad 4

Okay so i went out today to look at a television and ended up buying an ipad 3 from comet.

the one i wanted was only available in the neighbouring towns shop so i payed in the one and drove to collect from the other. I had asked the salesman why the stock was so low and he said . oh apple don't send us enough

On arriving home tonight I go on the internet on my laptop before playing with the new ipad and an updated ipad4 has just been announced.

I have taken the plastic wrapper off the box but have not taken the wrapping off the actually ipad and havent used it at all.

obviously im pretty annoyed that :

my ipad that ive just paid for is now not new ( i bought it exactly 6 hours ago )

when I asked them why the stock was low the asnwer was just oh apple dont send us enough.

seems to me they wanted to flog this one asap and saw me coming

before i go in tomorrow all guns blazing could someone advise me that I am correct in thinking that within 14 days i can return for a full refund no questions asked and how best to approach the store

thank you in advance

You need to check the store policy - you have no rights in law unless the item is faulty.

The ipad 4 (is it officially called that?) was a surprise to many - the store may not even be aware of it.

There's no 14 day rule. I doubt they'll take it back.

It's been rumoured for a while a new iPad was being released. If not next month it would have been early in the new year

Why are you going in all guns blazing ? That won't help at all.

There's always a new Ipad/Iphone in the pipeline, just enjoy the one you have. The new one will be more expensive anyway.

So very true - because they know there will always be someone willing to pay a silly amount to have "the latest version"!

so the fact that I have not so much as taken the lid off the box is irrelevant ?

all guns blazing .. well because I asked them is there any reason this is the only one in the whole of the area, surely your not telling me a company the size of comet doesn't know that the reason there stock is so lacking is because there is a modified model coming out.

well thats my point the 'new' model is priced exactly the same is this item i have bought today Id understand if id payed less for the item

I am sure that Comet knew, but I doubt individual sales staff knew.

You chose the product because it has the features you required. You have lost nothing, and the store has done nothing wrong.

You severely overestimate how much information staff are told, and how much they look into stuff in their own time.

There were mumblings that apple MAY revise the ipad 3 slightly, but that's it.

Comet's buyers may have known, but they wouldn't have told the staff.

What are you going to do with your Ipad? Will you be using it for gaming? Will the A6 processor make any difference to you? Will you be using 4G?

If no to either, why go back? In this case it's highly likely that the staff member genuinely didn't know. Apple are notorious for understocking resellers, so it's plausible that they thought that was the reason. Where I work, we've had perhaps a peak of 10 ipads in stock at any one time because apple are so !!!!! at sending them to us.

As the consumer, shouldn't you have done some research yourself though? Anyone with eyes knew that apple were holding a hardware announcement today, why didn't you wait until they made their announcements before you decided what to do, because surely you knew the Ipad mini was being announced for an imminent release?

You should have waited if you wanted the new model.

I'm not having a dig at the salesperson because obviously they may not have known

As a consumer what research could I have done nobody knew until today anything of a new ipad considering this one is less than a year old.

As with most people i thought the announcement would be regarding the mini not a new model after 7 months.

however to say why go back seems odd, if you were to buy anything new and within 6 hours of buying it a better version for the same price was released im sure you would also be unhappy

Of course it's new. It's the most recently released iPad as it stands. iPad 4 has only today been officially announced, as far as I am aware. What do you expect stores to do? "Well, sir, the most recent iPad is not out yet, so unfortunately I can't help you"?

New stuff is constantly being released. If you always wait until the next version, you'll never buy anything. Does the existing one do what you want? Will the new one have features that this one doesn't that you want?
