I think Apple are going to upset a lot of their loyal customers over this. When you think about it they must have been churning out the new model for months, knowing how angry a lot of Apple lovers will get.
The Comet sales person wouldn't have known and most people didn't expect it.
Doubt Comet will do anything about it now but it's worth a try.0 -
I think Apple are going to upset a lot of their loyal customers over this.
Why? They do it all the time.
It would be commercial suicide to announce the earlier replacement model whilst you are still shipping vast quantities to the retailers.
TBH I have never got the whole Apple thing where punters are fleeced at premium prices for products than be bought for half the price from other manufacturers.
But I do take my hat off to Apple for coming up with a fantastic business model.
Now if I was in the market for a tablet the Nexus looks a viable alternative.0 -
No they don't, when an ipad or iphone come out there's usually a year before there's an upgrade.
That sounds like what I just said. They launched in 7 months instead of 12 months. 12 months is still too short in my mind but Apple have just increased the speed of the treadmill.
So what you are saying is the sheep will be upset having to replace it in 7 months instead of 12 months for a minuscule gain.
The old adage "a fool and his money are easily parted" springs to mind.0 -
They could have said "well why don't you wait a few weeks, a new one's coming out"
They know it damn well that a new one will, they know it even more damn well that the customer will not buy it instantly and will wait, when they do come back, they could be served by someone else, so the initial idiot loses their commission. :money:
Lots of trickery.
No, they are probably following managers' orders. They are not idiots, they are people trying to hold on to their jobs. I am pretty sure they would be in trouble if someone came in to buy something and they sent them away without selling it to them. The OP went in to collect the Ipad 3 which had been tracked down for him at another store and for which he had made a special journey. That sounds like someone who really wanted to get his hands on an Ipad 3 to me. If they are trying to sell em and he is that keen to buy one it's pretty unfair of you to call them idiots. They seem pretty smart to me actually.
As I said before, if it is so i important to have the latest model, you ask the question.0 -

Apple Store staff don't even know when new products are coming out until they are announced, so what makes you think someone in a Comet store would know a new model is coming out.
Its not even a proper update really, more equivalent in a S model in iPhone terms than a full update which is probably why there has been a shorter time between models.0 -

Why should they do that? And likely loose a sale.
There's no trickery at all, if you think there is you're deluded.
Do your research next time and stop blaming others for not doing it for you when you fall flat on your face.0 -

One flaw in your little theory. The shock announcement, that no-body expected at all, came AFTER OP bought his Ipad 3.
The whole world didn't expect there to be a new Ipad, but the lowly sales assistant in Comet 'knew damn well'?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
