Ipad 3 BOUGHT TODAY ... now the ipad 4

Got to agree with you here Gregg, as you said I asked for and got an Ipad3 and had a new model not been announced within hours I would have absolutely no grumble and at no stage have with the salesperson. I returned to the shop and explained the situation and luckily Comet agreed that whilst they had not mis-sold anything they understood my reasoning and would sort this to my satisfaction.
I think the only shock was that the new one will be released November 2nd as which means the ipad 3 was only the new model for 7 months.
The salesperson in comet was by no means lowly and but for the release of this one I was a very happy customer.
I do sympathise Steve, it must have been frustrating for you.
I know we bought a new 3d tv and within a couple of weeks there was a new model out with a new stand and features much better than ours. I must confess to having a "dammit" moment myself. Maybe I should have practiced what I preach and asked;) On that occasion I didn't ask the question. Still pleased with the one I got though.
And I am genuinely glad you appear to have sorted out the issue.0 -

I meant as in the order of mac experts the world over who didn't see it coming. I can't help if it you chose to interpret my meaning differently.
But that is not how you phrased it is it?
You need to read your post again because it came across as derogatory. Nothing to do with me "misinterpreting"!0 -

I have read that and after asking the question I believe that offer of a free upgrade is only available to customers that bought direct from apple themselves, as I bought mine from comet i have to sort it out with them.
Thank you anyway for the link tootiemac
What is wrong with my general attitude ?
To say somebody is beyond help because of their general attitude is pretty daft considering all I have been doing is discussing the best outcome for this situation, if your not happy you didn't have to comment, unless of course your intent on trying to wind people up and cause arguements.0 -

It terms of the hierachy for a company the size of Comet, i would definitely say that the sales assistant is low. That is how i interpreted the comment.
I find it hard to believe that if all sales staff for all electrical suppliers knew of the announcement, Apple were able to keep this as secret as it was (not on mainline technology sites).0 -
I know how you feel. I bought the ipad 3 on Sunday! I called Apple in Brighton and they are giving a replacement if you purchased it within the last 30days.
Obviously I bought it from Comet, if Apple are doing it so should they. Comet should look after their customers and take it up with Apple afterwards.
I will be expecting a refund or replacment as I've spent over 3k on goods over the past 2 months and willl happily go back providing they play there cards rite.
But i wouldnt go in all guns blazing, end of the day you are not happy with the product as a new version has come out and you werent made aware and the manufacturers are offering replacement, so should they!
See what happens :00 -

except its Apples company & product.
Apple can easily use the returned 3's for warranty etc
If Comet(and other retailers) were to offer the service, then it would be down to Apple to take the stock back.
seems they are penalising Jobovites for not buying from the House of Jobs0 -
That sounds like what I just said. They launched in 7 months instead of 12 months. 12 months is still too short in my mind but Apple have just increased the speed of the treadmill.
So what you are saying is the sheep will be upset having to replace it in 7 months instead of 12 months for a minuscule gain.
The old adage "a fool and his money are easily parted" springs to mind.
12 months is too short but it's the way they have done it with the ipads, to go to 7 months is very underhand.
Hopefully people will not rush to buy this new one as there could be another one along in 6 months.0 -

I'm in the same position as you. I went to comet yesterday, certainly not spoiling for a fight but to see what they can do. Actually spoke to the manager and let's just say he played the brick wall routine. In fact he actually went as far as saying he would be sacked if he offered any kind of exchange.
The fact that the kit has been upgraded is not an issue in itself. What is in my opinion is the fact that if apple are providing exchanges, the retailers should at least be trying to do the same. Otherwise what is the incentive to continue shopping at comet.
Like you I had bought many things from comet in last couple of years, including previous ipad and had intended to buy further things in next few months - when I pointed this out to the manager, he said it was irrelevant.
I guess the end result is the amount of apple stores etc will grow and the likes of comet will soon close and the choice won't exist anyway.
Then all we'll hear is more tales of the death of the high street etc, when in fact it's failure of them to move with the times.
Let me know how you get on, but don't hold your breath.0 -
If Apple werent offering replacements I would say that its just bad luck, but as they are offering replacements, I expect the same from Comet.
You are being peonalised for buying apple products from Comet instead of going direct to Apple. As a business it would be wise to offer the same or anyone with the same problem as mine. People wont want to buy Apple products from Comet again. And im sure there will be a few of us with the same views as mine.
Comet will need to sort something out with Apple and keep their customers happy as it will be more costly in the long run not too.
Regardless to their returns policy, I think they would need to use there own integrety to please the consumer on this one

Dont you mean Apple should be opening the offer to retailers?0
