  • Hi,

I wrote to Barclaycard claiming £355 charges + £130 interest.

They have paid me £355 charges but only £28 interest? at what they claim to be 8%.

I used Martins "Interest Calculator" to calculate the £130. Has anyone else had the same issue? shall i forget about the £102 interest thay have miss calculated? or try and claim this interest?

I have just spoke to Barclaycard about their 8% interest repayment. THey claim they should only pay back 8% of the total, NOT 8% calculated from the date i was first deprived of the money!!

Anyone else been told this? They have only underpaid the interest by £100 but i feel abit annoyed by their ignorance now. Shall i claim or not? They clearly won't budge over the phone? will the FOS be able to do anymore?

Got my refund but i didn't quite get the full amount either. I'm happy though. I think Barclaycard are just trying it on a bit by paying most of the claim but not all of it. My claim was for £498.27 including interest. They seem to think my charges only total £432 including interest.

I've just realised they paid me 8% of the total as well! Charges were £400 then 8% of that = £32

Ah well got most of it back i'm happy

Hi, I've just had the same problem with Barclaycard re-opening a dead account to accept charges from the AA. The AA have agreed to refund the money (as I didn't want to renew with them anyway) less an admin charge of £14.

But how can Barclaycard re-open a closed account??? And who's going to pay the interest accrued on this unwanted transaction?

Have you had any joy with this?

    Cheers

    Hiya,

Having called them up to resolve it, and being told he couldn't sort it out over the phone as the account didn't technically exist, he wrote a letter. We got a response asking for more details sent to our current address, meanwhile more demands for money and fees were being sent to our old address. We let it slide a bit because we've been busy, but now the matter has been passed onto debt collectors according to the latest letter sent to our old address, so my husband wrote a (hopefully) final letter demanding all sorts of action, such as the fees being deducted from the amount owed along with a deduction for the time and effort he's taken to sort it out. I don't know what's going to happen.

It's hard to see how someone could collect a debt on a closed account when they failed to sort it out themselves twice.

    Hi,

I'm intending to write to Barclaycard to ask for a list of my over limit charges. However, I'm also concerned about my Payment Protection Charges. I don't recall ever specifically ordering payment protection but I have had the card a long time so it is possible. However, I definitely don't recall being told that it was possible to purchase payment protection from someone other than your card provider, which I've now learnt they are required to tell you. Do you think I have any chance of claiming those back?

I made the fatal error of relying on my Direct Debit to pay my minimum payments. I stopped spending before I reached my limit and assumed I'd be ok ... little did I know that I was paying for payment protection nor that they don't factor that charge in when calculating your minimum payment ... so it was actually them that pushed me over my limit!!! They then charged me for being over the limit but again, don't factor that charge in when calculating your minimum payment. I naively wasn't paying attention to my statements assuming the DD was looking after itself while I concentrated on clearing another card and I would come back to this one later ... when I did finally pay attention I was so far over limit that I now can't afford to clear it and so am still making minimum payments while I frantically try and find more work and cut costs. Meanwhile, other debts are mounting up ... I mean REALLY mounting up, well over £15,000!!! I'm sinking fast and finding it really difficult to know where to turn!

I can't even claim any Benefits or anything because technically my earnings are much higher than my rent, even if 110% of them are going on bad debt while I starve and freeze and walk everywhere because I can no longer afford to run a car!

if you are struggling to live then i would got to Citizens Advice, i did back in 2005 because my ex left me with debts, i couldn't afford to eat and was getting threatening letters and ccj's.

they sorted everything out for me, they were able to stop the accounts occuring interest and sorted monthly payment plans (some even as little as £1 a month (although not ideal coz you'll be paying it back for years) but if it helps you get back on your feet then maybe over time you'll be able to increase your monthly payments.

If someone would have told me to go to CAB sooner I'd have a lot less debt now, so please make an appointment to see what they have to say and good luck! ;)
A MASSIVE Thanks to all you fantastic people who post the comps and answers:beer: :T

  • On my statements Barclaycard have charged me £12 for late payment and £12 for over credit limit in some months. So that equates to £24 per month. What can I claim back if anything? They have been consistant over the 6 years with these charges.

You can reclaim all £12 charges for late payment & overlimit. Check your credit file and see if they have put any adverse data on there as a result of late payment/overlimit. You can insist that they remove them completely as part of your claim. So far every claim of this type has been successful, including my own.

oh thats interesting smasher many thanks,

im requesting my credit file on monday to all the 3 credit agencies, so if i put my claims in i need to also ensure mention any adverse data like the late marker on the months you mean?
Then ensure they remove the data for the charges made

fab, i can ask for this data removal even if i had an arrangement to pay on a pro rata payment each month only set up my own dmp past couple of months.

I dont want to cause any friction on the companies who have stopped interest and charges for 6 or 12 months,

any thoughts appreciated have a fun sunday ciao MAZ
