I wrote my initial letter to barclaycard just less than 2 weeks ago asking for £400 back in charges. I checked my online account at the weekend and realised they had credited my account with £160 plus £12 odd interest (the difference between the £12 and £20). However, i haven't yet received a letter from them! Shall i wait for a letter to arrive or just crack on with the 2nd letter ? (as i'm going for the full amount).0

(edit: my husband did contact AA with new bank details but they obviously messed up). We also got a letter charging interest (because the card was registered to my husband's parents' address and we don't get our post from them very regularly).
They also sent a letter saying basically: although we cancelled your card, we're accepting this payment "for your convenience".
So, in short, my husband does not actually have an account with them any more, and yet they're trying to get money from him.
I'm assuming we can get the interest charges wiped if we pay the original AA membership fee, but I'd like to know what you guys think about this!
edit: my husband phoned the bank to sort this out, and was told that they couldn't access his account, as it didn't exist! He was advised to write a letter to head office to get it sorted.
Hi, I've just had the same problem with Barclaycard re-opening a dead account to accept charges from the AA. The AA have agreed to refund the money (as I didn't want to renew with them anyway) less an admin charge of £14.
But how can Barclaycard re-open a closed account??? And who's going to pay the interest accrued on this unwanted transaction?
Have you had any joy with this?

Just another note - i phone them yesterday after my final offer of £150...........checked the card balance today and they had credited another £230. RESULT - had only put my letter in the post an hour before checking my card balance :rotfl:0 -

brilliant. What did you say to them on the phone ?0 -
brilliant. What did you say to them on the phone ?
I basically rang a number i had found on here and asked for the complaints department (think the number is a direct line into the offices instead of going through the on hold thing with music) its 01642 663 631 open 9-5 though.
Said i'd received an offer of £150, i wasn't overly happy with this as i was asking for £480ish that not even a 50% offer.
The woman on the other end said i'm sorry, there's nothing we can do.
So i replied ok, thank you. if you could transfer the £150 to my current account, i will pursue the difference through the FOS.
She said she'll put a final offer letter in the post.
This was all yesterday (7/04/08)
So i checked my card balance today just to be sure they had transfered the £150 like they promised to find my card balance was now £230 in credit.
So rang and spoke to complaints again and had them transfer the £230 into my current account, also advised i'm still not happy and will be going to the FOS
Going to check my card balance again tomorrow to see if they have put the £100 they are short in too!
i'll let you know if they have.
Good luck with your claim.............keep us posted0 -
