I claimed back £620 from barclaycard just over a week ago for unfair charges, have today received a letter back offering me £127 whick is the difference between the amounts I had been charged and the £12 they now charge which they say is fair. I have to say they have dealt with my claim very quickly but was wondereing whether it is worth persisting to try and get back all of the claim
Any advice of information from people who have had similar response appreciated0 -
Unfortunately I only came across this site today but that guide is extremely helpful, its great to know I have a legal right to claim this money back. I just can't believe they went into my current account and took the money anyway!0

My husband cancelled his Barclaycard months ago, and we recently got a statement from them on which our AA annual membership has been debited. (edit: my husband did contact AA with new bank details but they obviously messed up). We also got a letter charging interest (because the card was registered to my husband's parents' address and we don't get our post from them very regularly).
They also sent a letter saying basically: although we cancelled your card, we're accepting this payment "for your convenience".
So, in short, my husband does not actually have an account with them any more, and yet they're trying to get money from him.
I'm assuming we can get the interest charges wiped if we pay the original AA membership fee, but I'd like to know what you guys think about this!
edit: my husband phoned the bank to sort this out, and was told that they couldn't access his account, as it didn't exist! He was advised to write a letter to head office to get it sorted.0 -
They do have a legal right to 'offset' a negative balance from a positive balance.
However, you now have the legal right to reclaim ALL those charges back. So get them statements out and right down each charge applied and RECLAIM them back.
Go girl, go get your money back.

Hi
Barclaycard received my 3rd letter on the 9th Feb but as yet no reply, the 14 days are up on the 23rd Feb.
Do I just register my claim with the mcol on the 23rd or give them a couple more days?

Hi
Just an update.
I had letter from BC this morning saying " sorry you had to make a complaint about are service blah blah blah".
I called the number on the letter and spoke a lovely lady, I explained about the charges.
She refunded the FULL charges + 8% total interest, £30.00 short of what I was asking. She even included the 2 that had just been applied to the account. No questions asked.
So all sorted on that front.
Many Thanks Guys n Girls.Think it's about time the comping fairy remembered where I am! lol0 -
BIG BREAKTHROUGH!
Just spent over an hour being passed around Barclaycard's offices, from pillar to post. Finally got through to a Customer Relationship Manager. Told her my name and account number and said I'd been offerd £64 of £184, but that I wasn't happy with this settlement figure. Without skipping a beat she said she'd credit the whole lot back to my account immediately and apologised for the inconvenience. That now means I'M FREE OF CREDIT CARD DEBT and have a nice bonus from Barclaycard on the way!!
If you are trying to claim money back from Barclaycard, this is the direct number to call to speak to the Customer Relationship Manager - 01642 663631.
Please do let me know if you have the same success!! Good luck!!0 -

Just thought I'd share my experience......
Sent my first letter to Barclaycard on the 28th of January asking for a list of my charges, received this 12 days later with the £10 cheque being cashed. Sent another letter totalling charges of £624 asking for my money back on the 13th of Feb. Then received a letter saying we think charges are reasonable blah blah blah and that they'll credit my account with the difference between the £12 and the £20 which was £180. Sent the without prejudice letter on the 19th saying it wasn't good enough and I'd accept an additional £400 (I could cope with losing the £44). Got a letter this morning saying charges are reasonable but as a goodwill gesture they will refund all of the £444 onto my account (this was in addition to the £180).
VICTORY, :j hoorah and in such a short space of time as well, didn't need to speak to anybody just sent the standard letters. Thanks to everyone on this site as all of your stories spurred me on.:A

Hi
First post for me, this is probably been answered but.... I have just looked at my online banking with Barclaycard and nearly fell off my chair when I saw I was £130 in CREDIT!!! You guessed it reclaimed my charges and it seems they have paid the difference back plus some interest. However I asked for alot more back i.e the full amount and I intend to get every last penny back from them. What I want to know is when I write back to them asking for the full payment what letter do I need to use? Dont want them to take back what they have already paid, do I need to use the the 'Without Prejudice' wording? I looked at the sample letters and can't seem to find the correct one to use for when the have already made a part payment? Hope this makes sense, just dont want to mess it up. Can I ask for the rest of the payment to be sent to me by cheque?
Thanks in advance!!!0 -
