Due to a windfall (tax refund) I'm able to pay off my Capital One credit card - currently owe £580. Rang them up today to confirm the exact figure I'd need to pay to reduce it to a zero balance. He asked why I wanted to clear my balance !!!! Duh.... I did point out that they've earned enough money out of me from having to pay a high interest rate, and that unless they could reduce the APR, I'd be cancelling the card. He then went off to speak to his manager, came back a short while later and said they would be writing to me to confirm a lower interest rate. We'll see - I'll believe it when the letter lands on the mat ....

They have probably withdrawn the offer because you are wanting full settlement and not informed you. When the 7 days is up carry on with the reclaiming process and persist for all your money back.
Good luck
Just to let you all know i recived my £64 cheque today so will duly be putting that in the bank tommorow!!
am still persuing thr remainder of £96 as i wrote in my respose to their pathetic offer that i would accept £64 as part payment only but would setle for £160 of a £180 claim..
so will see what they come back with..they have until the 26th to respond!0 -
7.3.07 - request to Cap 1 asking to refund charges £400 + £63 interest. Reply received today saying they have creditied my account with £136, i.e. the difference between my charges and the £12 that OFT states as fair. would prefer the full amount ta very much so am about to send LBA for full amount. question is: do I just say I accept the £136 without prejudice but if I do not receive the rest within 14 days I will take court action or should I say I do not accept the £136 and ask them to remove it from my account?0

capital one has one of the highest interest rates..so better off getting a brand new card with someone offering 0% should you wish to have another credit card.
Think halifax and H.S.B.C are offering good ones at the moment..check the other forums on credit cards..0 -
Thanks saver mum next letter will be away first class to them tomorrow. fingers crossed!0

Thanks - I wish I could have one of the 0% ones - unfortunately my bad credit history has ruled out any chance of that
But... things are improving, and hopefully as things get paid off etc my credit score will improve

just trying to get my statements from cap 1 has been a nightmare. When I first called I was told there had been 66 charges applied to my account (66 x £20 = £1320) but after 4 phone calls I finally received my statements, showing 20 charges! I quickly fired off letter 1 anyway, and have noticed that the majority of statements have "supressed statement" on the top. has anyone else had this and what does it mean?
I requested full details and received an obviously incomplete list as a letter. I fired off a letter to the effect that I wasnt impressed with the deliberate concealment of my data and that it subject to complaint to the Information Commissioner as a deliberately obstructive breach of the DPA. Warned them that from media reports they should be aware that as a result of such complaints they are liable to prosecution.
That should shift 'em0 -
You don't by any chance have a copy of what you wrote?0
