just spoke to cap1 on the phone they are saying that as I closed my card account more than two years ago they do not have any record of it or my statements for that account in other words they have deleted it and there is no way to get the information back. This cannot be right can it? this account is still showing on my credit report so how can cap1 just lose it

Have you already sent data protection letter, or were you just ringing up to find out?

if it is true and cap1 no longer hold any information on that account then I'm screwed because I only have a handful of statements

Its wIdely accepted that all files etc should be retained for a period of six years. I closed my Barclays account in 2003, and i have managed to get my statements.

That's rubbish as I got mine and my account was closed in 2006 - think they are probably just trying to fob you off.

  • Mine from Capital bank clearly stated what were charges and what were payments. They gave me a summary of all statements with dates, credit limit info and totals on them. I'm not really sure what they have given you. Are the figures not even in different columns, i.e debits and credits? What descriptions have you been given against the totals, if any

Did your statements clearly list what was a charge and what wasn't as i have recieved my statements, which i know i have charges on since about 2001 and all it lists is figures, not stating what any of the payments are relating to!

I dn't have them on me at the moment but i will check tonight, i think they were in debit and credit columns but i couldn't seem to work out what the debits were as they basically just list figures in the majority of the cases, except for the most recent statements which clearly detail who each debit was to and for how much.

thank you for your quick response!
