  • Received the standard "NO" letter after claiming 6 x £25 charges to my wifes account, she set up an account with Yorkshire Building Society in case the Clydesdale closed the account as a result of any court action, after receiving the letter she does not want to take it any court action against them.I was thinking of writing back confirming that no court action was being taken against them but also advising them that her wages were no longer going to be paid into the Clydesdale account(she,s on a good wage) and attempt for a goodwill payment!.We could then leave a penny in the account and cost them money in statements posted out.

Do you know that the Clydesdale and Yorkshire are the same company?

The Yorkshire bank is the southern version of the Clydesdale however the Yorkshire building society is a mutual and owned by its account holders and is not associated with the Clydesdale/Yorkshire bank evil empire.
I have a deep burning indifference

I see, I thought the Yorkshire Bank used to be the Yorkshire Building Society.

when I was 16, a skillseeker making £50 per week, I had a bank acount with Clydesale. I also had a contract mobile phone taht cost me £30 per month. As I got paid by cash weekly, I would go to the bank and deposit £10. Each time I did so I was aksed to sighn up for a credit card. Each time I said 'no thanks, Im 16, make £50 a week, spend £10 on travel, £10 on lunches, £10 on my mobile and £20 to my parents.'

Then I received a letter from my mobile provider, my direct debit had bounced, they wanted their £30 within 5 days. I went to the bank to find out what had happened. Another direct debit had empted my account of my £30 and my tiny little bit of savings. A direct debit that wasnt mine! The bank also charged me £20 or so for my DD bouncing.

So what did I do? I tried arguing with them to get my money back, they said would, which was fine. Got it sorted out. Then next month I find out they had taken the charge anyway! Again I went in, they spoke to me like i was 16 and I acted it.

I ended up with over £200 worth of fines piling up , me refusing to pay it as it wasnt my fault, them refusing to write it off. Not only from the bank, but from the mobile phone company. I had piles of letters hidden about it as I was too scared to tell anyone. Eventually a debt collector came to my door and it took me over 2 years to pay it all back.

How is that fair? True I should have asked for help, for someone to talk to them to sort it out, but I didnt. I learned a lesson.

The two years of my life that I should have been having fun I was paying off a debt that wasnt mine.

Banks have been treading on people who can least afford it for far too long. It is time they paid us back.

I am claiming my £216 from Llyods tsb and whatever my husbands closed Clydesdale bank charges amout to, and I will get great pleasure from doing it too. :T

Anyone spoken to the Clydesdale - my date is up tomorrow and I have only had an acknowledgement last week and nothing - tried to phone and got call centre to-day but they "know nothing" and cannot put me through to anyone in the Leeds centre. I will now take them to the cleaners I think if no word tomorrow. - the person on the end of the phone was not at all helpful either!
Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j

Nice one frankie, good luck with that. Was the Leeds address the first point of contact for you? I plan to write to them fairly soon as I just found this thread yesterday. I'm on reasonably good terms with my branch manager, but that might be out the window if I wander in asking for my charges to be refunded!
  • Hey irvind

My first letter requesting statements went to my branch, as did my letter with my initial claim and my next letter threatening to take them to court. I received an initial reply from my branch, but after my letter threatening court my reply came from Leeds. I would give you the number, but unfortunately my in court advisor has all my stuff! If you get the number of the head office through directory enquiries, they should be able to put you through. Be insistent though, as they are obviously not keen for you to contact them!
  • CLYDESDALE BANK THREAT

    Hi Everyone

I received a letter from the Leeds office this morning, offering 50% of my orginal claim, no interest. They also enclosed a cheque with the letter, wrongly made out - made a mistake with my name! In the letter there is an interesting papragraph which I will write out below (regarding going to court) -

"Further, even if you were successful in your arguments the Bank would have a claim against you for damages suffered as a result of your breach of contract in failing to adhere to the terms and conditions of the account. Such a claim would incur court costs and interest for which you may be held liable"

Interesting! I have copied the letter to my in court advisor, she what she says. I am not wanting to accept this at all, and don't appreciate this threat - so watch this space!!!
