Would you like it if they automatically cut our number off at the end of the 2-year minimum contracted period?
If you are asking the OP, then he has already answered this question earlier:
What do you think happens when your insurance or TV Licence or VED disc expires? You are sent something commonly known as a reminder. If you fail to act, then the entitlement expires.
For a mobile phone contract sending a reminder would be even simpler than for licence/disc/insurance.

The current system works fine for me - and for those who know the score.

To my mind, the problem lies in two areas.

    1. The "minimum contract period" concept with the contract then continuing on a 30-day notice basis is not understood by some customers because they don't plough through the t&c. (It's not just mobiles where people don't read what they are agreeing to - try taking out a Microsoft licence agreement!)

    2. T&c are always long and tedious to read so there needs to be a simple checklist of bullet points extracted from the t&c that should be brought to buyers' attention on purchase and the basis of the contract should be in this bullet point list.

Giving 30 days' notice is no real big deal and shouldn't break anyone's bank. It's not difficult to check in the last few weeks just what you have to do to cancel a contract.
