  • Hi Looboss replying to your post I also got that standard letter back from NatWest asking for £5.00, they lost my original cheque for £5 so I wouldnt worry about them cashing your £10, but I will say that you must send your payment by registered post as they will probably lose it, incompitance!!

Well, I have written back to them, stating that I have already sent them a check and provided a check number. and I f don't get my info in two weeks I go to the information commissioner.

They will reap what they have sown! :)

Spoke to my Credit Card company today to be told that I no longer meet their lending critia and my card was stopped in January. I only have a £220 balance but had been paying overlimit fees of £12 for months. Has anybody challenged the £12 fees with the CC Companies? I dont have much to lose and would be interested to know other peoples ideas.
    Cheers

The OFT set the limit as what they consider reasonable but until charges are reduced to reflect actual then they remain unfair under the UTCCR's and reclaimable in court. You can still challenge these fees and reclaim them so I would go for it :)

Can any one give me a good contact phone number. Sick of been put on hold for ages and want to get ripped into them.

    Many thanks
  • I have sent my first letter requesting details of charges etc. I have received a letter back today from Nationwide saying they do not refund blah, blah, blah and they are sorry that i am not satisfied with the service, but it is my responsibility to manage my account properly. They have replied after 8 days, but they still havn't given me details of my charges so i can't send the 2nd letter requesting a designated amount. Does any one have any advice for me. I'd be most grateful. Never done this b4, but i don't want them to get away with not paying me what i'm owed.

I would advise waiting for your statements and if not received within specified time, take your complaint to the the financial Ombudsman Service (FOS). They have a great website that is really useful

    Bank: Abbey

    Amount claiming: £2600

    Amount reclaimed: £2200

Requested statements before xmas 2006, long winding process. Did write asking for a settlement out of court, no response until i filed my allocation questionnaire, then they called the next day!! Accepted offer of £2200 as im currently on extended maternity leave and needed the money! In account within five days, they are awful!! Get your money back off the Abbey, take it to the end if you can, Good luck Abbey Claimers!! Im now closing my account
Abbey seems to be really poor at paying up. My friend has requested they repay £1,750. They pitifully offered her £180 - now with the FOS!

Hi, sorry I have no other number but the 08457 253519 number - which is for customer relations - however, I have always got a response, even if it has taken 20 minutes or so .....

How do you go about claiming if you can't remember your account number or the dates you were with the bank?

    Hi there

I lodged a court claim against the Halifax for £542.72, including interest and court fees - after they failed to respond to my 'without prejudice' offer to accept £300 from them if they made it within 10 days.

They then wrote saying £328 would be paid into my account, as goodwill in full settlement of my 'complaint', unless I phoned them to decline this, which I did. They then offered a 'final goodwill gesture' of £456 over the phone, adding in a follow up letter - 'Please note that we are not prepared to revise our offer to you'.

Even though the difference is quite small I don't want to accept this, mainly because I didn't sense much 'goodwill' on the phone or in their letter!

Should I just 'hang in there' for the full amount - they've got until May 8th to respond to my court claim - or will this 'reasonable offer' cut any ice with the court, and would I be better off accepting this latest offer?

P.S. Thanks Martin - great site!

It depends on whether the offer of £456 is the amount reclaimable minus interest. If it is then you do have to accept this as it is considered a 'reasonable' offer by the court. You cannot claim interest until you file claim and it is awarded by the court on judgement in your favour.

If it isnt, then yes it is worth hanging in there for the full amount and pursuing it at court level. Good luck :)
