Hi all,
I'm new to this site although been reading it for quite a while and thought as I'm now going down the 'reclaiming my charges back' route thought I'd say hello and ask a quick question...
I read on one of the threads on here that someone rang the HALIFAX and asked for their statements over the phone saying that they were for Child Tax Credit purposes and only got charged £5 so thought I'd do the same to save myself a fiver. Rang them and was immediately asked if I wanted these to claim bank charges back which I responded with a confused sounding 'ummm.....no..it's for tax credits...' which seemed to satisfy her. Unfortunately I have no money in my account till this Friday so she asked me to ring up and order them then as they have to debit the fiver out of my account. I asked how long they would take and she said 'there's a huge backlog of statement requests as, I don't know if you've seen on the TV, but a lot of people are claiming back their bank charges and asking for 6 years worth of statements!' (NO, REALLY???! ) and so she says I'll have to wait around 8 weeks.
Now, sorry for waffling, but my question is, I presume I'd be better sending Martin's temp letter with a tenner in so that they can respond to me in writing and I can then carry on with the next stage as opposed to being told on the phone 8 weeks and not being able to follow it up in the correct procedure??
Good luck to everybody, please keep your fingers crossed for me too!
Speak to you all soon.

Personally, yes this is what I would do.
I have always tried not to deal with the banks on the phone because as you say, you need what they say in writing.0 -
I am in the process of claiming from Abbey but they are stalling! Sent them the initial letter for bank statments with the £10 fee. Got a letter dated 20 March advising that last 14 months of statments would be with me withing 7 days (got them the next day). Letter said that the archived transactions between 2001 and 2005 would be despatched under separate cover ..........still waiting! Just tried to call them but the number on the letter is unobtainable!!!!! Another letter in the post this afternoon then!:j Debt free since 31/01/08:j

Does anyone know if when claiming from Mint (who are Royal Bank of Scotland) should I right to the RBSG address or the Mint Customer Service address which appears on their website as there isn't a Mint address on the MSE list?
thanks in advance

Hi I am sorry to sound dense but wondered if anyone could advise me!!! I have written and recieved all my statements from the Halifax bank, and worked out that i am entitled to claim £4517 with intrest included in that amount. Sent that letter two weeks ago and heard nothing, so I e mailed to give them a further 7 days. Do I need to send a copy of this by post as well, or is e mail adequate? Recieved a response this morning from original letter saying they had 8 weeks to deal with it, so rang and spoke to someone who told me helpfully that I was at the bottom of a very long queue, and probably wont hear anything before June!!!! Do I wait the further 7 days then issue court letters etc or give them till June????
Any help would be greatly appreciated folks!!0 -

I was just wondering was I dreaming or did I see somwhere that you can sue the bank for retaliatory account closure?
Allaince and Leicester have informed me they will close my account on 13/05/07.
I am not concerned as I have a paracute account, but it has angered me that they are allowed to get away with bullyboy tactics!!!
Mind you, at this rate they will have no customers left!!!
Can anyone advise??!!0 -

You can complain to the Financial Ombudsman and may be liable for compensation. Two such cases of which here :
