recieved bank statements today from one of my accounts.Bit confussed tho i was expecting a list of charges.does this mean i have to manually count the charges?
go through the statements yourself and use the caluculator thingy on this site. and make lots of copies too.
i went through mine and at least i know that i have included aevery single charge. it's a bit time consuming but reassuring (and shocking) at the same time.

stick with the times you set in your letters too. don't let your bank stall you with the standard 8 week letter either!!
    halifax: settled paid £2622.18:j
lloyds tsb: £1038.83 inc interest, but claim on hold.

perhaps you can help?somewhat confussed julie
also send everything recorded delivery. and print off the page that displays the signature for recieving the letters. just make sure you have cpoies of everything you send and recieve. it's better to have everythingin case you have to go to court!!

first of all thanks to all for help!

i got an agreement letter saying i could have the full amount from hsbc (£551) which am very happy about. its says they will crdit me account with in 7 working days. the only problem is its now been over 7 working days and when i phone they say they are very busy and doing there best. i understand there must be a lot to go through but it cant take over 7 days to credit money to an account. should i think about calling them and speaking to someone in charge, or leave it for a little longer? also has anyone else waited so long for the money back once they agreed the refund???
surely they've breached their agreement with you? try threatening to take them to court then see how quickly you get the money!!

I need some advice really. I recently was successful claiming my charges back from the halifax. I wanted to do the same with a closed account i had with Natwest. I got the statements today and i owe them £1200 as they have been adding interest etc on the account as it had an overdraft. Can i claim the interest back plus charges or do i quit now?
The account was passed to a debt company and instead of stopping interest charged on it and closing it as they were requested to do they are continuing to keep it open and increase the amount i owe every month!
  • :o Thanks Twinkly for the encouragement, i'm going to phone them now and attempt a negotiation for the full charges amount. I'll let you all know how i got on and in the meantime good luck to everybody! It's about time consumers in this country realised they need us more than we need them.

Post #3 in the Reclaim Bank Charges Help thread shows the address for Abbey as:

    ABBEY NATIONAL PLC
    ABBEY NATIONAL HOUSE
    2 TRITON SQUARE
    REGENT'S PLACE
    LONDON
    NW1 3AN

Or you can hand in the letter to your local branch and it will be forwarded internally to the correct department. Saving you postage and getting a receipt for the letter in the process. If you post make sure to use recorded delivery.
    :)

If i hand it in to my local beanch do i still need to but that address on the front.

The account should have been closed once they passed it to the DCA. if they haven't get on the phone and find out why it is still open when it has been passed over and requested to be closed otherwise you will be paying the DCA and also the bank so you will be paying twice NO NO NO get on the phone and play merry hell!!!!!!
My Mission today is to have an opinion on everything.
If you don't like it well you will just have to lump it!

Thanks Copperhead jack. If i hadn't have requested the statements i would have been none the wiser!!
  • Hi all,

Does anyone know if I can reclaim charges from a closed account or account that has been put through to debt collections with Natwest? These charges totl a small fortune but I dont want to waste my time!!

    Advice needed!!!
  • Ho hum, it seems that Barclays do not negotiate their 'goodwill' offers so i am going to begin proceedings.
Could anyone tell me if i'm right in thinking that as soon as the 14 days(lba) is up i can file the claim regardless of whether they have made me an offer? I do not need to contact them again first? Just that this would give them more chance to get a defence together in time!
