:j first of all thanks to all for help!
i got an agreement letter saying i could have the full amount from hsbc (£551) which am very happy about. its says they will crdit me account with in 7 working days. the only problem is its now been over 7 working days and when i phone they say they are very busy and doing there best. i understand there must be a lot to go through but it cant take over 7 days to credit money to an account. should i think about calling them and speaking to someone in charge, or leave it for a little longer? also has anyone else waited so long for the money back once they agreed the refund???0 -
Hi I have sent my letter requesting a refund to the Halifax, Trinity Rd, Halifax, recorded delivery on the 30th March and they have not received it. Is it the right address.
Should I send another copy to them?
Halifax request for refund sent 30/3 (not received)
Barclaycard requested list of charges sent 30/3 (received 2/4)
Natwest requested list of charges sent 30/3 (received 2/4)
Halifax CC requested list of charges sent 30/3 (received 2/4)
Barclaycard requested list of charges sent 4/4
My Mission today is to have an opinion on everything.
If you don't like it well you will just have to lump it!0 -

According to post #3 in the Reclaim Bank Charges Help thread it is yes. Also according to my mortgage lettersI wouldnt worry its only been 4 days. It may take a little time to update the online tracking system at Royal Mail. My letters took between 4-6 days to show on the system.

Most of the answers to initial questions can be found also in the threads on the first page of the forum marked as 'sticky'. The following is a list of charges you can and cant claim for. Thanks to Rex_Mundi for the original post.
CAN BE CLAIMED
Account misuse fee
Cheque return fee
Card misuse fee
Unarranged borrowing fee
Unauthorised overdraft fee
Unpaid DD fee
Unpaid cheque fee
Unpaid standing order fee
Late payment fee (credit cards, store cards, catalogues etc)
Exceeding Authorised Overdraft Limit
Exceeding Unauthorised Overdraft Limit
Direct Debit/Standing Order/Cheque returned fee
Irregular fee
Paid refferal fee
Total charges (HSBC personal accounts only, not business accounts)
CANNOT BE CLAIMED
Cash Machine Withdrawl Fees
Account Service Charges
Service Fee / Annual Fee
Charges related to foreign currency transactions and conversions.
Monthly account fees on certain type of accounts.
Normal overdraft interest charges
Different banks may name their charges different names so if in any doubt as to what a particular charge is either check with your bank or ask in the forum here. Also some banks have taken to calling some of the above charges 'service fees' and not 'default' charges. This is a bit of a fib to say the least :rotfl:
Good luck with your claim
Twinkly,
Many thanks for your help. I really do appreciate it.

Hi,
I'm currently claiming bank charges from lloyds tsb for my mum. I've sent the second letter off to claim her charges with interest and they sent back a letter saying basically "I'm sorry to hear about your complaint, we are investigating and could take up to 8 weeks"........what should I do now? Just sit back and wait for them to respond or do i send another letter? I want the process to be as quick as possible and i'm not sure if they are just delaying the process.
Please please can someone advise me what to do.....
I'm sorry if this is in a previous thread, i've tried to look but theres hundreds of pages.
Hope someone can help.
Thanks x0 -
Thousands of people have reclaimed money from the banks that has been wrongly charged. However I suspect that is just the tip of the iceberg; many more people do not know or feel so intimidated by their bank that they do nothing.
My suggestion is that a class action is brought against the banks which will require them to automatically refund all excess charges. It is significant that they are not contesting in court any claims because they know that they are in the wrong.
If an organisation such as the Consumers' Association or perhaps MoneySavingExpert were to commence such a class action the banks would do all they could to resist it....but they would still lose!0 -

give them the 14 days, maybe a couple over to take into account posting, but definatly stick to your timescale and not theirs, send the second letter as soon as they have had their 14 days or they just keep delaying...0 -

Well...I can only give you my considered opinion based on my own view of my own mortgage. I have to say that the Halifax have been absolutely brilliant with me in dealings with my mortgage.
I am happy to let the previous charges ride, there arent that many and I havent incurred any in a long time since seperation from my childrens father and all the financial trouble that caused. I take excellent care of my mortgage above any other debt (I've only got one left now anyway) and always advise them immediately if there is a problem such as late payment for whatever reason. It is my only valuable asset and the roof over my childrens heads so I wouldnt even think about doing anything to jeapordise that.
Having said that, I have a long time left on it and did incur some arrears so they would have cause to repossess (only after a damn good fight from me of course.) If I were in the position of only a year to go, no children and no arrears then I would certainly think about it. If I were switching mortgages then I would do it then also.
The thing with reclaiming charges is that there needs to be a change in consumer law or a radical sweep of changes to the charging levels to make it something we cant do. For now there is time and I am in no rush. If the law doesnt change in the next ten years or so then I would consider doing it when I could be sure of minimal risk. A mortgage is a lot of responsibility and I think people need to weigh up their own personal circumstances. Hope that helps somewhat0
