Had my bank statement in the post this morning, with charges of £110! . I went overdrawn three times, total them all up and the amount barely reaches £15. I know i shouldn't have gone overdrawn, but i'm not working due to illness at the moment and £110 is hell of a lot of money to me.
I watched the video Martin did regarding this. I'm going to write them a letter asking for other penalites. Just wanted to say thanks for all the advice.0 -
My sister in law got charged a shocking 6000 pounds  in redemption fees a few years back for changing mortgage companies, can she claim this back ?
Thanks x
Not according to Martins article here :
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1170081918,22653,
Shame though, 6 grand is a whopping fee.
His article says " Early Redemption Penalties can't be reclaimed. These are charged when you repay or switch mortgage during a special deal, such as a fixed or discount rate (see the Mortgage Guide / Remortgage Guide for details)."0 -

That's funny, because I (thanks to the Consumer Action Group) just got one of my friends a refund of nearly £600 on card which had a balance of £450!!! Balance is wiped out, account will get closed as soon as the refund hits it, and she should be getting her cheque any day now. Should I get her to photocopy it in case it's a mirage?
Oh, of course, they're not refunds, they're "gestures of goodwill"!!! LOL
Thanks for that, that's given me a laugh.0 -
can anyone give some advice please? i've sent my letter to natwest asking for money back along with my marriage certificate because im claiming for my joint account {now frozen}, im back to using my maiden name, i no longer have anything to do with my ex, if they pay out will they send a cheque or will it be credited to our frozen account as its in the overdraft, will both names be on the cheque if they send one? will they let me claim alone or will they ask for his signature on anything? im a bit confused and worried!0

Hi, I think I have made an error. I am at the stage with LLoyds TSB where I have just started the legal side of things. On my original letters to the bank I only covered charges for a 2 year period. I have since uncovered an extra £2000 in charges for the 4 years previous to this. Can I amend my original claim or Can I start another claim from the beginning to cover those 4 years?
Grateful for any help.

i have just claimed mortgage fees back and they made the cheque out to both of us. Rang them and said no problems to send it back which I did only
to have it returned, I had to get my ex to send a letter that we both signed
to have the cheque made payable to me.
I would try and post it on a as a new topic since they seems to be a lot of
people that are divorced not sure of the rules.
I have'nt bothered claiming bank charges on our old joint accounts since I think it will be more trouble than its worth, but in your case at least it will get rid of the overdraft.
good luck0 -
I received a letter from the Halifax on the 6th March 2007 stating that as a goodwill gesture they would credit my account with £414, unless they heard from me within 14 days declining the offer.
I phoned them on the 9th March and told them I refused their offer. They replied that Ms xxx would phone me back but this never happened.
I sent a letter confirming the fact that I declined their offer.
I also have a Certificate of Posting stamped by the Post Office to prove that I sent the letter.
I have received a bank statement from the Halifax and there is a credit of £414 on the 15th March!!
Can you please advise me how to continue as I am claiming for £788.98. It seems they are forcing this lower amount on me.0 -

You have advised them twice of refusal so I dont know what else you can do. In your position I would write (recorded delivery) advising acceptance of the amount without prejudice in partial settlement against your full claim of £788.98. Further that you intend to reclaim the remainder and take it from there carrying on with the usual reclaiming process.
As a side note. I have lost count of the times snotty council tax staff have told me that proof of postage is not proof of their receipt. Just a little warning that the bank may deny receipt, its convenient for them to do so, recorded delivery is a little more secure. Good luck0
