I renewed my contract with vodafone on the 10th October this year.
Will the contract price I agreed to change ..?
  • ninhog, have Voddy actually confirmed that they have cancelled your contract and you don't owe them anything? The sceptic in me, reading their response on your site, screams 'let's give him the PAC, let him use it then hit him with a bill for the remainder of the contract'. I did read your letter and specifically the bit about not paying any more etc but CS are well known for just sending out generic responses that don't totally relate to what you've said in the letter.

I think Millie has a point Ninhog hence I'm hoping I'm going to be quite happy with the deal I got...

There's like no way I should have been allowed to upgrade 9 months early!!!. Just no way......

That to me is a pretty good result :)

  • It was my friend's contract and he refuses to contact VF by telephone 'out of principle', which is incredibly foolish because personally, I'd want proper confirmation.

However, either correctly or incorrectly, I assume that the termination will be without charge because the letter states that this is what's being requested. My friend hasn't received notification of any charges which would have to be provided prior to trying to take any payment.

I'd be incredibly disappointed if Vodafone tried to apply an ETF after effectively agreeing to the request in the letter.
  • Erme, did you use my letter by any chance? Is that what helped you get the upgrade early? Do you have to pay anything?

Yes Ninhog and like I spammed the various folk remember (director of communications and also web relations) and I just emailed them the letter and they are falling over to keep me as a customer.

I even got a nice email with an apology for any distress :)

So will be donating to your website when I get paid on tuesday Ninhog :) as per request...

As long as you're happy with what they've done for you, then I guess that's something!

Any donation is completely optional and even then, only consider it if you think my letter has helped you in any way. Of course, if you don't want to make a donation or don't feel that the letter did anything, then don't even consider making a donation :)

Exactly the point I made in post #53.

I would strongly advise MSE members not to cancel their contracts until they have in writing from Voda that there will be no cancellation charges if they do.

I would also hope that, if ninhog actually goes through with using the PAC code then whatever the outcome, the result is posted to this thread.

Last year, there were numerous posts on the same matter with all the networks but particularly Voda, when they raised their charges. I can not recall any single case where customers were let off with no cancellation fee and common sense tells me that ninhog will be hit with a cancellation fee within the next month if the PAC code is used. However, many did negotiate a good deal for the remainder of their contract, but you don't need any special letter to do that. Just hit the email addresses highlighted or even try CS on 191. I would search on here for the 2011 thread to use as a reference when you ring CS.

However, if anyone wants to risk it, by all means go for it - but don't say you haven't been warned and certainly don't make any "donation" until you have succeeded in cancelling your contract without penalty !

I completely agree with Guys Dad.

As stated on my website, it's not me cancelling a contract; it's on behalf of a friend. I've also explained that no confirmation has been received in writing.

I still believe that a clause within the Terms & Conditions (the one which I've argued) is too vague on VF's part, meaning that it's impossible for them to prove that you HAVEN'T experienced significant inconvenience because of the price increase.

I've simply shared a letter that I've sent and I've made no guarantees- I couldn't possibly do that.

Well that's honest enough for me. Just 3 things.

    1. The significant detriment point was tried last year a number of times and failed, so it's not anew idea as such. But times change and anything is worth a try.

    2. Please do keep us informed if your friend does use the PAC code and if they then get a bill for the rest of the contract.

    3. As last year, there were many Voda customers who did complain and perseverance did get them a better deal - even better than the one they were on pre-increase. I don't think Voda wanted too much hassle and wanted to retain them. So I would advise that as being the most successful route to pursue.
