  • Lesson learnt by myself, and will make sure that i leave vodafone at the end, and will not reccomend them to anyone.
Even though they gave me a reduction, i will be doing the same, I can positively say that I have NO confidence in them any more.

    Hi all,

Im hopefully getting somewhere, So far they have offered me another contract, although I declined as it didnt really offer me any more that I would use, and they have offered me a 'discount' which actually puts my bill lower than it is now.

However, to me thats not the point. they breached their Ts and Cs (by giving less than 30 days notice) and I am continuing to pursue this line with them

If they revert to giving you the same or better deal before implementing the increase or refunding you any additional charges they made, then you will have virtually no chance of a SCC supporting you. In addition, Voda would raise a Termination fee and if you didn't pay, then they would record you as being in default. That, in layman's terms, is called trashing your credit record.

But, hey, if you are 100% you are on a winner, then go for it, but I think you will lose as per the preceding paragraph. Personally, I would be grateful for the victory I made and wouldn't want to snatch defeat from its jaws.

No i would not use PAYG, i would go on a sim only deal something like Giff Gaff (which have good deals) which is only a 30 day tie.
All the same, once many people start to use sim only deals, what stop the network to charge more or reduce deals?
In six months might be back here going on about how sim only deals are no good any more.

The difference then is that you can vote with your feet and tell them what to do with their amended terms if you don't like them.

Unfortunately that does not appear to be the case with the long term contracts.
As it stands, I have 12 months to go on a deal I don't agree with, with a company I don't like.
That simply can't happen with PAYG or 30-day rolling contracts.

A large percentage of your monthly cost is for the handset on a long term contract, so if you don't care about having a £600 smart phone, then you're probably overpaying committing to something that long at the average monthly cost.

Companies will not deliberately advertise good deals, get everyone hooked and then make wholesale changes, if they think it will lose them custom.
Vodafone (and the others) are working under the impression that this will be water under the bridge by the time it comes to your renewal, or that by acting collectively, people will be less likely to move, or if they do move, they'll jump amongst each other and the overall result will be insignificant together.

The big few are not necessarily the best and they do not hold exclusive abilities to retain customers, which im sure they will soon learn.
Giff Gaff, Tesco Mobile etc etc will happilly sweep up the people they decide to dump on now.

I'm currently pay £19/month 'fixed' until April 2014. I was about to leave Vodafone when I could get the same contract cheaper with Orange but they offered to keep me for £19/month which was a better deal. The way the figured out my bill was that they said I was on a £36/month contract but then too a £17 discount off every month.

However, now that they put the price up, they've based the price increase on the £36/month instead of the £19/month.

Is this fair and what can I do about it? I was not warned about this change whatsoever -- no text, no email, no phone call. I only found out when I checked my bill in very recently.

This exactly what they did to me too, gave me a cheaper deal to keep me, when i could have got the deal with a another provider ( which has NOT put up their prices) and have put my contract by the full amount and not the agreed reduced price.
Unfortunately im afraid there is nothing we can do about it, except walk away from them as soon as you can, even their staff from call centres, web chat and head office are very smug and cocky that they are getting away with it, rubbing the salt into the wounds.I will be walking away from them as soon as i can and i also make sure that i tell everyone not to join Vodafone, last week alone i have put off 4 people that were thinking of joining them from going to Vodafone and will carry on.

Pretty much this. I was a *tad* bemused few weeks ago that when asking the simplest of questions 'can you send me proof of purchase' Vodafone seem to go out their way to be rubbish. I have decided to suffer in silence until I get out of the contract (10 months and counting ) My monthly payments have gone up - but I really don't have the energy to argue.
