What is an ex-external drive? :o

I heard the disc spinning but I did not hear the Windows "chime".

The properties are still the same.

I could test it on my laptop but how do I test it? :o

an ex-external drive is one that is no longer an external drive - more a doorstop!

Plug it into your laptop. Wait whilst it initialises (and drivers are installed if required) Open Computer/My Computer, find the new drive letter (probably not J: on yours), then right click > Properties
How do I add a signature?

Get a local computer shop (NOT a big multiple) to check it for you before consigning it to the recycling centre.

Whilst it's good practice to back up before changing hardware configuration, it's not essential - although I will add the codicil that you do so at your own risk.
