Am i happy with my lot?

    No.

My wife is bi-polar and when she is down tends to lock me out of my house, once i lived in the shed for nine days.

Most times she is good, but when not she is manic.

All i want to do is get my mortgage paid, another ten years to go and leave.

    My life is not fun.

Jesus mate it does not sound much fun living in a shed....good luck and may all your wishes come true..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
  • This has been an interesting thread.

Overall, I'm probably happier just now than than I was for years. I have a lovely husband, great relationship with my parents, nice if somewhat unfinished house, am very happily childfree and volunteer for a charity.

I had an idyllic childhood but much of my 20s and early 30s were downright miserable, entirely because of my career. When I finally walked away it was a huge relief, but I hadn't bargained for how much it robbed me of my confidence. I'm been out of the workforce for quite a while now and am starting to feel I'd like to work again, but doing what I have no idea! So I keep putting off thinking about it too hard. I've got a good education but my lack of confidence really hards me back.

Are you really going to be " counting " down for 10 years...can you not leave any earlier?

My wife can't work so i need to.

Just take each day as it comes.

Wow; that sounds incredibly sad. Surely there's another way rather than wait 10 years? Anything could happen in that time live is too short.
  • no not happy with mine. Am working to make it better but feel like I'm running out of time. Trying to be grateful for what I do have but it's hard sometimes not too feel disheartened - would definately do some things differently if I could do it all again.

One day it will all click into place without you realising it until looking back.
I never thought that i would be in the position i am today.
All i did was make a few lucky decisions and that is it.
Your mood effects your decisions so fall back in love with yourself and be confident of who you are and it will all fall into place..
    confidence is the key....good luck..

I do hope so. I'm just so worried I'm running out of time to see my life in a place where I'm happy.

The first change I need to make is to get fit. I need to lose weight; I need to lower my chances of diabetes and need to get more energy in order to change the other aspects of my life.
  • A few years back we lost everything: house, pensions, savings. Not the kids and not each other. There are two ways of looking at my life now.
I`m trapped in a job, working long hours, living in a small house full of secondhand stuff because we can`t afford anything nice or new. I`m too old to change much and old age is looming with inadequate state pension. I`ve been working hard since I was 14 including all the way through having kids. I have very few friends - almost none and never go out.

Or I can turn it on its head. We live in a small house - there is only two of us so why do we need more? Everything in our house has been recycled - very green. I am lucky to have a full time job. I have two children and a grandchild. I like my own company and need very little out of life apart from walking the dog and finding a really good book in a charity shop. I see my three friends twice a year - I couldn`t squeeze much more in with the hours I work. I have no need to retire, so I might as well work until I drop. I am boring, but old enough to not give a fig. I like small ecological pleasures.
It is all a case of perception, I suppose.
Debt September 2020 BIG FAT ZERO!
Now mortgage free, sort of retired, reducing and reusing and putting money away for grandchildren...
