They provide a pretty average product - identical with with that of many competitors. What sets Tiscali apart is that when things go wrong (eg. billing, connection problems, etc.) they don't care.
I run my own web hosting service and used to teach BT engineers about broadband, so I dislike being patronised by someone reading a script on a screen at their very expensive call centre. (I used to write such scripts!)
They did not take my complaint about reliability seriously. I complained to to Otelo (the regulator) and received judgement against them, including an apology, refund of a year's subscription and a named individual to deal with the my problem. The apology wasn't worth the paper since they did not take on board the Otelo's criticism of their service and did not improve their processes.
I'm now with another ISP who are more expensive, but when I ring them, it's a case two similarly-competent people with the same mind-set attacking the same problem from opposite ends.
The bottom line is that they are cheap and you get what you pay for. If your service works, you've got a great deal. If it has problems, you'd have been far better off with a different ISP. Yer pays yer money and takes yer choice.

Hello everyone! First post;)
Just thought i would like to add to this thread about Tiscali!
Had broadband with them for about 4 years. Happy with the broadband so i upgraded for everything (line rental, tv..etc..)2 weeks ago. With a go live date 11th Sept. Within days of placing the order their modem started to play up. Rang techinal support 2 times without sucess so rang cancelling department to void the upgrade and account. Asked for mac code in which they could not give it to me. Recieved mac code the next day by Email.
Rang Bt next day (28th Aug) to transfer my broadband to them. gave them the mac code and bt could not as Tiscali have placed a order on my telephone line.
Upto the 10 pm on the September 11th made numerous calls to Tiscali to cancel their order to Bt. :mad: Very frustrated with their customer service very rude, terminating calls, put on hold. :mad: To cut a long story they did not cancel the order with Bt after telling they already have.
:mad: :mad: Feel really annoyed with Tiscali as basically have taken my telephone number without my consent.:mad: :mad:
Spoke to ofcom yesterday to report Tiscali, now today rang BT to transfer everything back to BT. Go live broadband 22nd Sept and Bt line 30th sept.
Cancelled DD with tiscali and looking forward to the complaints procedure. Also not looking forward to my final bill from them! Must be about £50 -£60 just in call charges to their customer services!
Sum up Tiscali fine when working but your worst nightmare when it goes wrong.:mad: :mad: :mad:0
