Problems with Tiscali

How many of them offer broadband with line rental included?0

For ADSL the best option is to get your line though BT, as they cannot stop you using alternative providers. You should have done more research! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I have done research, thanks. I cannot afford to have a separate landline and also pay for a broadband service at this time. If my flat supported it, I'd get cable - it doesn't, so I can't. Tiscali offered what I needed at a reasonable price, so I went with them.
If their service is awful, then that would be a different matter. But first, I want to actually start using it. I've had issues with companies before during set up (cable and ADSL) so this isn't new. In all previous cases, once the service was working, I had no problems. Hopefully it will be the same in this case.0 -
Against all research and advice joined tiscali ( only use during the day)and you would not believe how they have cocked this up told them to forget it rung bt to block them taking over line just in case.God knows what would have happened down the line PLEASE BEWARE0

Today I received *three* modems. The whole reason the first two were not delivered was because, get this, they did NOT PUT THE HOUSE NUMBER ON THE ADDRESS!
Incredible.
However, I am now connected up and did a speedtest - 1944K up, 216 down. Seems about right for a 2MB connection.
Will see how things progress.0 -
To cut a long story short, Tiscali have debited a total of £507.89 from my bank account over the past eleven months. This is in exchange for a broadband connection that has never worked, and for sparing use of their pay as you go dial up service during the first six weeks of this saga, after I was told by one call centre operative that I could claim back the cost of my Tiscali pay as you go dial-up for all the time they were having troubles connecting me (over and beyond the 10 days it normally takes to connect). It appears that I was fed false information on this occasion, and it is by no means the only occasion.
I have followed Tiscali's complaints procedure to the max and Tiscali say im not getting any form of refund. Outrageous I say and I am prepared to take them all the way to the small claims court. First stop CEO, fingers crossed she turns out to be the one sane and rational person within this utterly abysmal excuse for a company. If that doesnt work then I have to go through their arbitration service, Cisas.
The saddest thing of all is that if I dont get the £500 off them then I cant afford the fees for my masters degree in september - so i need a resolution fast. I don't think there is another company in the land, of similar size, who would willingly take £500 off a poor student and give nothing back in return - appart from a hat full of lies and a bag full of misery.
I feel like I have just been mugged by a gang of street thugs. Tiscali have ruined the last 11 months of my life, and there is still no end in sight. I hope this post will warn people of the grave dangers involved with dealing with Tiscali.:mad:   :mad:0 -

I had the same thing done to me by NTL some years ago, before they got taken over by Virgin Media. I was advised back then to implement the 'direct debit guarantee' (assuming you paid by direct debit) you may need to ask your bank about this, but it effectively means you can dispute the charges and have them put back into your account. If not, dispute the charges with your credit card company or whoever. Then have them reversed, so they are chasing you for the money instead of the other way around.
Their more willing to listen when the shoe is on the other foot and you have the money and they don't.

HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
Hi
I assume this is quite a common problem...
Me and my housemates will be moving in to a rented house this weekend and are looking to sign up to tiscali broadband and tv. Tiscali are telling us that we need an active bt line to sign up.
Bt are telling us that tiscali should be able to do that otherwise we will have to activate with bt then when we switch to tiscali get a £70 BT cancellation fee.
It looks like we are stuck paying the £70 and tiscali arent willing to cover those costs, anyone had the same problem or got any ideas?0
