Problems with Tiscali

  • Hi all, I'm first time poster, long time user of the site.

I've been having major problems with Tiscali since about Jan 07 and things don't seem to be getting any better.

They firstly claimed i was over using the internet in Jan (Fair Usage), which i understood and said i would cut down. I didn't go on the net for 8 weeks after that, as i went to Australia and came back to find i couldn't get onto hardly any websites except Tiscali, Google, Hotmail & MSE.

My email is fine and i can use MSN without any problems.

I contacted them about this and they said it was my DNS at fault. So tried the solution they gave and still nothing. Ever since then they have stated I am a high bandwidth user and have had my internet capped. (Even though I can not use much of the internet anymore and have had to resort in using friends and library net)

I've been with Tiscali since May 05 and im on 2mbit line. I find their customer service to be quite poor and off putting.

I just want to know if anyone else has had this problem and if they have what can be done about it OR if there is a recommended ISP who doesn't enforce caps?

Thanks everyone for your time and help!

Ask for your MAC and migrate to another provider. Tiscali is the most complained about ISP, so choose carefully using sites like ispreview and thinkbroadband
 Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:
  • Thanks for the advice/links espresso.

I moved to tiscali from aol and started with the download and getting cut off route again, however, speaking to the "overseas" technical help did nothing except after two unsuccesfull calls the operator said she would get someone from Milton Keynes to ring me back within 7 days, he did, number witheld, but my pc is now working almost all the time @ 2meg which is what I am on . I hope it carries on, been 1 month now and so far best move I have made.

I might add aol made no attempt to offer any deal to keep my custom as deals were for new customers only!!

I've been with Tiscali over 18 months. The first 6 weeks was horrendous. Things settled down connection-wise but I was only connecting at 1.1mbps instead of the 2.2mbps it had been on initially. I guessed this might be something to do with the extra speed making the line unstable and didn't make an issue of it at the time. But given broadband pricing changes over the last 18 months I'm not best chuffed with the same poxy speed for £14.99 and I'm in the process of trying to get it improved otherwise I will migrate.

Experiences with customer support have been pretty ropey. Found it very difficult to hear (and understand) the overseas call centre operatives when I did have my problems and each time you call they take you through the same procedure of uninstalling, reinstalling, checking filters etc etc.
I am a cider drinker - like my father before me.

Hi cool steel, just wondering how you managed to be on £9.99 per month, im on 1MB but pay 12.99, thought their £9.99 rate was a 3 month intro only
