I never saw the original one but the one in the file I mentioned above I understand to be the original 2.3 Huawei one.

It has a choice of two widgets showing todays weather, when you click on it it goes full screen and some surreal music plays, clouds go by in the background and it shows 5 days weather - can anyone confirm this is the original Huawei one?

Weird - link won't work here...

ANYWAY LINK IS ON POST # 7 HERE

The one you posted is certainly the original G300 2.3 weather clock - i installed it - great to have it back - i think MSE forums automatically scrap dodgy links (done it again) but quick google for totemweather.apk finds it first hit
When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?

Yes via google play. I think it's the second most popular free app!

It's only of use if the recipient also has the app installed though

Just downloading the updates now - initially thought I'd avoid rooting it, and just install Plex/Apex onto it to make the home screen a little nicer... but they're not compatible?! If I root, I should be able to install them right?

Also, what would you guys say is the best/cheapest way to unlock the phone? I got it from Very fwiw, arrived today, just getting it ready to give to my mum for her birthday

THIS one on Ebay has been good for everyone, cheap, pretty quick and supplies the full set of master codes as well as the basic unlock, should cover any situation such as accidentally getting locked out.

Also bear in mind all your messages are going via 'someones' server, you have no idea who is reading them or doing what with them. I would NEVER send anything confidential or important over this system.

Without rooting, in ICS you can change the wallpaper, the themes, the layouts, the icons, the static icons, the fonts ,the sizes, the widgets can't see you would need any more to make it mum-friendly.

Thanks both, will get it unlocked now :)

And yeah fair point goose, although TBF the layout on my S3 with Nova is not only MUCH better for my mum, it's also a lot more responsive - I know that's to be expected since it's a faster phone, but the G300 has some really nasty and unnecessary animations IMO

In settings - developer options you can switch off window and transition animations if you prefer.

To new ICS users missing the original Huawei home screen weather widget.. (personally I'm easy)

You can download the app HERE (I put it somewhere easy) download either with your phone or PC

If not already on your phone, via USB or SD card copy the file TotemWeather.apk to somewhere on your phone.

Using file manager on phone find the file and click on it.

It may ask for permission, allow it, if it still doesn't work you may have to go to settings, security and tick allow install of non-market apps and try again (you can switch it back off again after.)

Select a home screen with some space (you can shift little used app icons ones to next door home pages by holding and dragging sideways or to the trashcan at the top) ..

Then go into apps, select widgets tab at top, side swipe through until you see weather clocks (there are two, a big and a small) press/hold on the desired one, phone will switch to home screen - just drop it where you want. Then you can click on it on home screen and access its settings.

Ah, brilliant, thank you! Having updated the phone the interface is *much* nicer anyway, but it's good to know I can easily disable the animations if needed anyway.

I also notice since updating I actually can install Nova, if needed, woo! But happy enough with the standard for now. Is there anyway to loop between the home screen pages though? I hate when you get to the end and can't go back around
