I used this and was surprised that it worked so easily.

    However:
    • my unlocked ex-Vodafone G300 is now locked to Vodafone again! I guess this means buying another unlock code.
    • when I switch on, I get the garish red and white Vodafone logo. How do I get rid of this? AQq+k+ROyV1PAAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==
I've also lost the apps I downloaded, but it shouldn't be too difficult to download them again.

Your unlock code is tied to your IMEI number which won't have changed, your existing code should work again.

The logo I suspect the phone would have to be rooted first to change as its probably in the system folder.

I thought we had been asked by the rest of the forum not mention the G300 and how good and cheap it is, it annoys them :silenced: so I have contained myself.

Although I have tried a lot of software on it and its quite different now, apart from ICS I am using a nicer dialler, a better SMS program, new icons, new toggler (wifi, bluetooth etc on/off widget), new calendar, new weather widget, new email, fixed the spellchecker...etc.

Thanks sillygoose for all your great advice - juse about to take the plunge and upgrade to ICS.

Can you tell us which calendar app, weather widget and icons you use? - and how you fixed the spellchecker please?

Thanks Sillgoose for all your great advice - juse about to take the plunge and upgrade to ICS.

Can you tell us which calendar app,
Smooth Calendar to provide a widget that has upcoming events in summary.

Also using CalenGoo not free but has a full screen widget able to show a month in view and you can click through into a great calendar, I use the whole of one of my home screens as a quick way to see what dates I have available. Didn't get it from Play store though ;)

    weather widget and
weather forecast widget (only costs £1 for unlocked extra to allow changes of skins if you want otherwise free default)

    icons you use? -
Icon changer (free + you can add icon packs) lets you create a shortcut icon to an app with an icon of your choosing, this can then be used on the home screens as normal - I like to pick icons that are meaningful to me for an app.

and how you fixed the spellchecker please?

    I've been Money Tipped!
Just got my shiny new G300, but I can't get the back off to insert the sim and battery...

Any tips out there for a smartphone 'virgin' :D

Or shall I just be pathetic and wait until DH comes home?
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

People may not have noticed, in ICS you're no longer stuck with the fixed buttons along the bottom. Don't use the stock browser? just hold down on the icon and chuck it in the trash! (don't worry it will still be in the apps list, you can put it back again easily) then say you only use Opera you can drag its icon to the bottom row and it becomes a sticky on every home screen page then.

I did this for the phone dialler, the contact app and the SMS buttons - using alternative apps for these functions. Created nice shortcut icons of my choice to use first as above - its my phone and its how I like it. Waddaya think of that Apple? :p

Both thumbnails facing each other in the slot and pull hard.
  • Yeah, the back gets easier to take off the more times you do it. But don't worry, it's very hard to break as its plastic and pretty flexible.

Yup, I am avoiding it, once its got the sim and a big SD card in I can't see any need again to remove - hoping mine stays nice and tight (Matron!)
  • Update worked really well thanks.
Very slick. Does anyone know how to get the weather app that was on gingerbread as default on ICS?
