I was unlucky and got one locked to Vodafone.

Now it's happily running Tesco Mobile, sadly there is some bloatware Apps I can't work out how to get rid off (so I've moved them into a folder called "crap").

Great phone for the price, and with ICS promised to be delivered soon it will soon be even better

Not wanting to sound stupid, but can someone explain what bloatware & ICS is (in very simple terms).

I'm still waiting for the unlock code, however it will be good to know what to expect ect when I finally get the phone unlocked. :)

Bloatware = software added to the operating system by the network.

ICS is the latest version of android. You can upgrade to this (if you know what you are doing)

Google ICS for ascend g300 to learn more about it.

The price of the Tesco Mobile locked G300 changed to a flat £65 this morning in at least some stores (Metro's definitely, others may vary).
You can instantly tell this one, as it's in one of the Tesco Mobile branded blue boxes, and should have the blue Tesco Mobile branded phone leaflet with barcode.

So, Tesco Mobile now has the phone as well? I don't care which network I get it from as I'll just buy an unlock code from Ebay. Just trying to get my hand on the phone from anybody really for less than £100. Odd that it's not any the Tesco Mobile web site.
  • So..need a guide for simpletons on how to remove bloatware.

Will the ICS download onto the mobile by connecting to a laptop?

(I changed the label this morning :p )

Other than that, if you're not seeing the discount, it's usually because the operator has forgotten to add the Tesco Mobile PLU to the till. (You get a prompt asking if the customer has spent over the figure)

Does this mean you can now get this phone for £50 with £30 of groceries or am I missing summat?
  • I read an A4 poster in Tesco today to state that you can receive £15.00 off any phone priced £50.00 or more. No minimum spend required. Clearance phones are not included in the offer. Was quite tempted.
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Not as simple. Google ics upgrade for ascend g300 and you'll find a walkthrough.

No, you will need to manually download it from a website and add it to the phone.

There is quite a comprehensive guide on MoDaCo. I have copied a segment in here which should be quite easy to follow:
    1. Download the official ICS 4.0.3 b926 update from here - The link can need a couple of retrys if the server is busy.

    2. Unzip the file and copy the dload folder and its contents on to your SD card.

    3. Go to Settings > Storage > Software upgrade to start the ICS upgrade - make sure you have enough battery before going any further!
If you are on a ROM which does not have the software update option in the storage menu you can force an update by doing the following: power off your phone, remove battery for a few seconds and replace, then power on whilst holding both vol. down and vol. up.

BE WARNED that this is performed at your own risk! There is the slight chance that things go wrong and you will end up with a broken phone!
