Nah, there is a glitch that means the phone counts towards that £30 as long as you scan something before it.
  • But you didn't have to buy £30 of stuff that you mightn't have otherwise bought. Am I missing something here or are you just referring to the potential lost time/travel costs etc.?

Absolutely, I wouldn't have just gone for the Mars Planets no matter how much Mrs MBS likes them :D I didn't want to go straight to the CS with my purchases as the glitch would probably have been noticed.

Its a great phone, had it a few days now.

It was locked, but got it unlocked through ebay for £5. Updated it to ICS and it runs really well, battery life seems ok as well.

    Of course!
Yes, I was missing something :)

If you were a true money saver then you would have presented Mrs Bystander with a 4p tin of mushy peas instead.

I kept the CS bloke on his toes when it came to looking in the mobile cabinet
OK so if there is more than one in there, is there any way of distinguishing a locked from an unlocked model from the barcode? I'm presuming that the box of the unlocked version will be branded Tesco Mobile.

Doubt it. I have had 4 of these now and every one had the same Huawei branding on the packaging, no network branding at all. It must be total pot luck, I reckon (wife not home yet so no idea if this is unlocked or not but it's not massively important to us as pa in law is going for a talkmobile sim deal).
  • Bought myself one from Tesco. Unfortunatly it's still locked to Vodafone.

Can anyone recommend an ebay seller for unlock codes?

Also, if the phone gets unlocked, will it lose any of it's software?
  • I tried and it comes up full price.

On what, an instore scannner? If at checkout, was it the first item you put through?
  • self scanner. scanned grocery then phone came up 80 when to end to pay asked to put money in had to cancel item.... looked like an idiot.... and it was busy.must have fixed it.
  • Serves you right. Just do your weekly shop there to get the deal instead of trying to cheat the store.
