I was unlucky and got one locked to Vodafone.

Now it's happily running Tesco Mobile, sadly there is some bloatware Apps I can't work out how to get rid off (so I've moved them into a folder called "crap").

Great phone for the price, and with ICS promised to be delivered soon it will soon be even better

On 2.3 you have to root to remove the bloat, when you get ICS a disable option will appear.

Does anyone know where the £15 off deal came from? I might have a go but would feel better if I knew about it. I can't find any info online at all? It seems odd to have a special offer and not tell anyone, or perhaps its advertised instore?

    Thanks

I bought one for my daughter yesterday. The glitch that was in place seems to have been fixed, but can confirm that the "spend £30 on groceries, get £15 off a mobile" definitely worked.
Just waiting for the unlock code coming, so she can stick her Orange sim into it.

Just in my local. None in stock, but can confirm that it listed in store as £80 and says if you but £30 in groceries (may be other things too), you'l get £15 discount on phone. Called CS and both local stores are due to get more tomorrow. I plan on picking one up.

I went to my Tesco Store to buy one. Its on the yellow sticker on the phone displayed. The advice I was given , check that the store has one in stock , tell the assistant to hold it , go to Till with £30 worth of goods , before items are scanned , tell cashier what you want to do , she/he then tells the phone geek he brings the phone to the desk ........ all must go thro on one scan.
Seems a bit long winded , but if it saves us money :D

Ps there is VERY limited Stock , as few as three phones per day per large store.

I went to Tesco today and actually stuck on the G300 (and all other phones) was sticker "£80 or £65 with £30 groceries"
When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?
  • Got mine yesterday for £65 with £15 worth of groceries. Went first to CS to reserve it and had a clash with someone else when I finally went back. Luckily Tesc* decided I had first claim, but it was a pity there was only one in stock. Tesc* don't seem to have very efficient stock control measures.

I am actually going to go with Vodaphone and the new number with the hope I can avoid spam on this phone and just use the old number for any online purchases.

It's a lovely phone, difficult to get the back off (I have long nails which I don't like using as levers) to get the sim into, but happy so far. Am now using a small piece of plastic to get the back off (a small toothpaste tube fliptop which is gentle enough).

    Thanks OP. Very happy.

Thankyou, I bicycled past and had a look and you are correct. There were big signs on all the mobile phones saying £15 off a £50 mobile when you buy £30 of groceries.

However as you all predicted Helston was out of stock and still had the price as £100 so I wonder how long they have been out of stock for...
  • The price of the Tesco Mobile locked G300 changed to a flat £65 this morning in at least some stores (Metro's definitely, others may vary).
You can instantly tell this one, as it's in one of the Tesco Mobile branded blue boxes, and should have the blue Tesco Mobile branded phone leaflet with barcode.

(I changed the label this morning :p )

Other than that, if you're not seeing the discount, it's usually because the operator has forgotten to add the Tesco Mobile PLU to the till. (You get a prompt asking if the customer has spent over the figure)
