I had a go with it last night, trying all sorts, using sim, without sim, no sd card, leaving battery out over night, and hard/factory resets. Did nothing, except it's logo trick. It's just not going anywhere.
I wouldn't be able to say what exactly was on it, neither would my dad (!). We did talk to Huawei again today with the phone in hand, and they couldn't help, just said that to send it in, and they'll redo the OS on it. If it were over 12 months I'd have just loaded one on for him to use, but as it was under he wanted it done official.
I did notice googling that it did have an ICS update available for it (not sure official, or not, didn't look at it in depth) so it is quite possible it did it mid update, and dad didn't realise it was a full update, but iirc it was an unlocked version to begin with on not sure what network, but we had planned to unlock it, but didn't need to, so hoping it comes back unlocked.
Huawei didn't even ask for proof of age, we said we knew it'd been bought either late july, or early aug last year (not entirely sure which month besides those two) and they were fine with it. Of course, now sent it off today, so hoping it arrives in one piece, and it's an easy fix.
It's my dads first smartphone, and it is cheap (akin really to the orange san fran from a few years ago) and whilst I wrongly thought I might have to re-rom first, to make it less dodgy with pre-installed junk, it seems to be quite a decent phone, he's had fun with it, and getting used to it, and with the cheap price, it's ideal when he breaks it (as in drops it which he hasn't yet done, didn't expect him to corrupt it tho!)

Good to hear. I have to say that sounds pretty good customer service by Huawei on a £70 phone!
Personally I would probably have put it down to bad luck and bought another one by now.. just assuming warranty would be a hassle (even though I have receipt and I think even registered the phone with Huawei)
Taught me an MSE lesson!0 -
Hi, I've got up this morning and found my G300 in a similar vegetative state.I charged it and left it in its cradle before going to bed last night and everything seemed normal. Dead as the proverbial doornail this morning. Will not even power on, have tried removing battery, sd card, sim card in different combinations to no avail. Also downloaded the HiSuite but the computer doesn't recognise the phone when plugged into it and won't load drivers.
I bought it in the 'Very' offer last September, got the unlock code from ebay and used sillygooses method to update it to ICS. Has been working flawlessly since and I've become very fond of it. Worst of all I'm off on visiting folks on Tuesday and this was my essential mobile internet as well as my phone so I'm double gutted. I'm not sure by updating and unlocking it I have voided my guarantee. Is my G300 a dead parrot? Should I be asking for a replacement or a repair from 'Very'? Any advice would be very welcome. TIA0 -

If you have proof of purchase (or apparently even without!) I would do as Lifeforms did and get onto Huawei, if the hardware is dead I very much doubt its repairable to the point they could find out what firmware was on it and will either replace the whole phone or fit a new mainboard, which would have fresh factory programming in its new ROM anyway. Only hassle would be getting it unlocked again as a new one would be locked.
Its possible they think the firmware is corrupt so would try to just flash standard factory software over it, again that would wipe out any mods you have applied so I doubt any warranty issue there either.
I can imagine if they did get into the software at some level they might have have issue with some of the custom ROMS out there but V940 I used was an official network operator standard version so can't be blamed as they will have supplied it to Velcom.0 -
I have had my G300 for less than a month and I have what I first thought were air bubbles under the screen protector I took the protector off today and it seems the bubbles are under the glass screen, looks like I will have to get on to Huawei,I bought the phone from Vodafone but put the latest ICS on and got rid of the voda bloatware so I think I kissed bye bye to voda warranty0

Obviously I haven't yet had the phone back, only went to post on friday, but there were no hints of any potential problems with just fixing it themselves. For both the cases I'd suggest unless you can walk in and swap out in a voda/whatever store, then try talking to Huawei about it.
iirc with the san fran, there was an original voda stock rom, and people did flash that back on if they had problems with their current rom, so if you can do the same, they might not know/be bothered.0 -

Shut your phone down and remove the battery. gently flex the phone from corner to corner while massaging the screen gently with your finger and it will disappear. It is a well known fault with the G300 and is due to something in your pocket etc putting pressure on the screen, takes about a minute to rectify !0 -
Thanks sillygoose. As I couldn't put my hands on a hard copyy of the receipt I got onto Very who have the purchase details in my account. They in turn put me in touch with their Help/Tech dept who walked me through a hard reset (that I'd alredy tried anyway) to no effect and are now sending a jiffy bag out. I'll keep the board posted how I get on.0

I have heard of this 'bubble' problem before - so about 3 months ago I was just getting in the car for a trip out with my wife and got my G300 out to use as sat nav when i seen "the bubble"
Eeeeeeeeekkk!
I figured that was the end of it - never heard of it going away
The bubble was right in the middle of the screen - got to the garden centre i put it in my pocket as normal - thinking what i should buy for my next mobile - took my G300 out to check some prices on the interweb and i was gobsmacked - the bubbled had gone! - completely without trace and as fast as it arrived
To this day it hasnt occured since and i still dont know what it was
Condensation? dunno - but it wentWhen will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?0 -
Phone came back yesterday, same phone, just working now! It's flashed with a Voda rom, the logo shows vodafone now, but it was flashed with ICS. All working, and one very happy dad!
Tempted to root it to install titanium backup on it though, seeing as he's lost all his stuff, though thankfully he hadn't realised google steals his contacts, and therefore he didn't lose those!0
