My G300, bought last November, is suddenly completely dead. The battery was 50% charged the last time I looked at it and nothing has happened in the meantime to suggest the phone would not work.

I have tried charging the battery without success. My OH also has a G300 and that battery does not work in it so it's not the battery. I have also tried a hard reset.

Any suggestions or do I contact Very?

You tried a hard reset? so not completely dead?.. you can get something to light up on screen? The phone should run just from the charger cable even without a battery fitted so not even that? try removing SD card (and possibly SIM) SD card could have failed and drag the power down or corrupted, unlikely but its about all you can remove!

    Thanks for your help SG.

It is completely dead. I tried a hard reset(volume+/power) because it seemed about the only option left to me.

I have now tried removing sd card and sim as you suggest but that still produces nothing!

Strange really because a search of Modoco and other forums does not indicate this has happened many times to other people.

If the phone had been knocked I could understand it but it hasn't!

Does sound unlucky. My wife doesn't treat them bad at all but seems to not have much luck with any brand handsets... as soon as she gets a new one I am already buying and getting ready the next one!

So to clarify... even on USB power, the screen shows absolutely nothing, doesn't even backlight - just stays totally power off black?

Does the power button 'feel' normal?

Last resort I can think of is installing Huawei HiSuite program, lets you remotely control the phone - see if it can see any underlying life in the phone pointing to just a screen problem or something else.

Absolutely nothing, doesn't even backlight. No power at all!

I had already loaded HiSuite on my computer when you recommended it a few months ago and I was not very hopeful.
Although HiSuite did not recognize the G300 Win7 did try to install driver software when I connected the phone to my computer.
Unfortunately it didn't find any drivers. I also tried to connect via a couple of other USB ports with the same result.

It looks like the only option I now have is to try a return it under guarantee.

Which is the best app to "reset" my battery.

Put my G300 on charge and it will say "charged", unplug it and check the battery monitor and it's only charged to 90%, so I think it needs a reset/re-calibration

When charging the light will turn green to indicate a full charge at 90% but if you leave it charging it should get to 100 %

Any advice or suggestions on my Dad's dead dodo.

It seems like he left something turned on, killing the battery, ignored the beeping, then just as it was on it's death beeps, picked it up and tried to plug in the power right as it woke up, it shut down. Basically doesn't do much now. I get the huawei logo and it goes no further. Vibrates upon power switch being pressed, then goes to logo and doesn't advance any further. Left it to see if it will go eventually, but doesn't. tried charging it and it just hangs on the logo. Wont go into any menu when I try to factory reset, just hangs on logo.

It is under 12 months, and I suspect the OS on it has been corrupted somehow. Bought at Tescos, but don't have receipt, however should show as a single purchase on his card, when/if he can statement find. My mum has contacted huawei themselves and they did say if it were under 12 months they'd fix it, so no issue there, but presumably it'll be a send away job, just wondering if there was any way to find his purchase in tescos (via clubcard?), and whether it'd be a swap out job rather than sending it away.

Its going to be tricky without any receipt! if Huawei are willing to help then a real pity.

Was his phone still on original Gingerbread or had he updated it to ICS? if it gets as far as the logo it may be recoverable still, with a suitable update image put on an SD card and a forced update triggered (power up whilst holding in both volume keys at the same time - fiddly!)

As you say, something got corrupted at the wrong time, perhaps if fastboot was on it works a bit like hibernate on a PC, it saves a snapshot of the running memory when it shuts down and just copies it back in place from SRAM to RAM on start up. If the copy got corrupted while it was being saved then on start up it will hang when it loads it back.

With no SD card in try power up firmly holding in both volume keys, if you get to I think a pink screen then there is hope. If it does you can just power off, without an update image on the SD card it won't have done anything.

I'm pretty sure the Huawei G300 came with a 2 year manufacturer's warranty, not that it's necessary in this case.

He doesn't need the receipt as long as he can prove when he bought it. If he can't find the paper credit card statement, he may be able to download one online. However you would need to check that was acceptable as some companies won't accept downloaded statements.

presume you've tried taking the battery out - leaving it out few a couple minutes to allow circuitry to discharge
When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?
