I can't imagine all guests at a wedding would need their own invitation. We had about 90 to ours (and an extra 30ish to the evening) and made less than 50 invitations.

That's what I said, 200 people in all - 100 invites. One between two :-)

    There was Droxine...

She wouldn't look out of place at a gypsy wedding.

Hmm. Think that outfit might be more suited to the wedding night than the day itself! :D
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.

How come wedding lists are suddenly Not On, despite being tradition for, ooh, probably most of last century?

During a large part of the last century, people who were getting married were setting up home for the first time, having been living with their parents up until the day of the wedding. Hence household goods. Today, what proportion of people who are getting married are doing so never having lived away from their parents?

One of the most useful presents we got was a plastic bucket with a bog brush in it. :)

I received a shopping basket!! (Mind you - that was way back in 1963 - think that the "glamour" presents were a stainless steel meat carving dish and an ali baba laundry basket!
  • Well regardless of whether or not gift lists are acceptable or not, if a bride and groom has one then there is simply no excuse for a thank you note.

We were invited to an August wedding and got the thank you note in January ..........mind you that was better than not getting one at all for a wedding we went to the following year.

Ha ha! Very angry? Can I suggest an anger management course. Life is too short to get even slightly angry over a wedding invitation.

    Heaven help us!

Needless to say, there were no angry people at our wedding. :rotfl:

Well certainly very annoyed and as I said it wouldn't change what I bought. If I want to know what to get I'm quite capable of asking.
So you would expect a simple invitation? No clue as to where, how to get there, suggestions for possible accommodation, no clue as to the order of the day, no clothing suggestions so that guests and their children can take advantage of the activities on offer without ruining their best clothes or having to skinny dip in the pool?

Or are the weddings you go to always so conventional that an invitation is all you need? You know exactly what is going to happen because it will be exactly the same as the last wedding you went to, and the one before that.

I would and always have had what you call a simple invitation. This would include where the wedding is and at what time. Why would I need to be told the exact timings!

If there were something other than the usual then I suppose information may be needed but I can't imagine needing swim-wear at a wedding!

Sorry, Torry (and apologies for the rhyme too), but I think that this part just confirms gloomendoom's point.

Personally, I have never been to a wedding where I needed swimwear.

However, I can imagine lots of scenarios where it might be the case that I did need swimwear at a wedding.

I might not accept the invitation in all of those scenarios

In other scenarios, I would accept the invitation, but avoid the swimwear-related activities.

And in one or two instances, me and my swimwear would be right in there... :o

No apology needed. I've just never come across swim-wear as a necessary requirement for a wedding that's all. I did say that an unusual requirement should be mentioned.

if they were close family or friends I would pay up, if they were distant relatives or friends of the mrs for example I will let the misses go and I'll stay at home and watch the footy or something. It's a bit of a cheek and people will take the !!!! for years to come.
