Would you pay to go to a wedding?

If I ever get married I'm going to do what a friend did... they invited immediate family only and then went out for lunch at Le Manoir. The whole circus that is a wedding fills me with horror.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0

*Sigh*
Not really...I am talking about blatant segregation amongst guests. Certain guests that can go to church vs certain guests that can only go to reception/evening meal. Certain guests that can only go to church vs certain guests that can go to church and to the meal, I could go on. I believe all wedding guests should be treated equal, and thus, IF I felt that I needed to employ those sort of tactics to be money savvy then I would scale down my expectations for the wedding itself, to ensure that everyone could enjoy the entire experience, not just parts of it.
Just my opinion of course.
*Sigh*
Many couples can't invite everyone to the wedding because there isn't the room. I would have loved to have been able to invite all our evening guests but the registry office held 30 people including us!0 -
I would just take my own food!0

Lunch at Le Manoir (which we love) would have cost them a pretty penny. We said in passing when we went there for OH's 40th how lovely it would be, but then we realised none of our immediate family would appreciate it.0 -

If I was the bride I would be worried that I had booked the big venue and no one will turn up!. No its not ok to ask people to pay for a meal, she wants to have the impressive big wedding but without the expense. If you go make sure you make it clear you have deducted your contribution to the reception from the wedding gift!0

I don't think they'd be my friends after that.
Weddings are expensive enough to attend already, as well as being a substantial investment of your free time.
Advantage of being single is that I don't often get invited to them!0 -
