  • its great to have an idea of when the sample sales in the local outlets, that way go in and try them on and then wait to the sales! Granted I'm a size 14 at the minute so will have to try and lose some weight as most samples are around a size 12 that I've seen

I think it depends on the shop tbh I'm plus size and went into a sample sale and they had my dress in there which was a perfect fit :)

  • Thats good news, I was having bad dreams about arriving at the dress shop and nothing fitting me! I'm going to put off dress shopping to next year I think, but i'd really like to get a band sorted for the next time I get home in november!

Do they do sample sales with sizes smaller than 12? That's a good idea :)
There's a wedding dress factory outlet shop on the outskirts of London, so I'm planning on visiting there some time next year. They've got one in the Midlands too and just opened one up north somewhere, if that's helpful to anyone :)

I've got nothing confirmed yet but we bought my OH's waistcoat, cravat and handkerchief yesterday. I bought some shoes I love, but they're not quite big enough, so I'm hoping that using shoe-stretchers will make them comfortable enough for me *fingers crossed*

We're going to chat with the vicar tomorrow evening so I'm really excited for that :D A bit nervous too though :( I'm worried he's going to ask questions about the fact that we live together already etc. :(

  • Our priest was made aware that we were living together already, in ireland you have to do a pre-marriage course before you can get married in a church. I thought he would let us skip this seeing as we are living together in a foreign country but no such luck.. The course can be anything up to €200! Which kinda shows why my budget is so high when you got to go through sillyness like that!

Haven't done much today, spotted someone selling the invitations that I liked on lightinthebox at home but they were asking way above the price it costs to buy them first hand! That really bugs me........

That is annoying :( I'm not sure what to do about invites yet, or when is a good time to send them. Also, does everyone bother with 'save the date's? I haven't actually been to a wedding since childhood, so I don't really know about what's normal to do.

The chat with the vicar went well, and we can have our date! :D He's really nice and didn't go into any more information about us living together once he found out that we did. Maybe that's down to it being so common now, or that he seems to be a fairly modern sort of vicar?

He went through the legalities with us and the sort of route of planning over the next couple of years. We filled out some paperwork as well. He said something about having some sessions to prepare us for married life, so I'm guessing perhaps that's a similar sort of thing, but he didn't mention any extra cost for that.

I'm feeling very excited about it all, we just need to try and save up as much as we can now and get our thinking caps on for the reception venue! There's a local health club that looks good, but we're also going to find out how much the church hall and caterers cost.

  • I'm sending the invites out 6 months before and rsvp date is 3 months before. We sent our save the dates two years ago :) but we've been engaged for a long time now.

  • Seems I'm doing a lot of wedding lurking online. Spotted some nice bits in the big department store, and I'm surprised by the price of things like guest books etc, they actually seem quite reasonable. I might start swagbucking things again to get M&S vouchers to put towards things like extra stationary etc.

As I'm not working it's probably the least I can do to help!

  • I was somewhat productive at the weekend. We went to a few jewellers to get our fingers measured and simply have a bit of a browse.

All went quite well although we did have a very pushy woman come out of a shop when we were looking in the window. She didn't want to know when said we weren't getting married for another two years, and then told us if there was anything we liked it wouldn't be there nearer the time. It really irritated me- I just wanted to get an idea of how much we need to save, and I can't do that unless I do a bit of research first!

We've since sat down and gone over the figures, and it's not looking great. My partner won't shift on an expensive honeymoon, so we'll only have a 1k left for the wedding. I thought we'd have 3k, which was much more doable.

On the plus side I have been quite thrifty today and have bought a pair of Ironfist shoes for £10 off the grabbit board for the wedding, which is significantly cheaper than the Lady Dragons I had my eye on!
  • Fuzzy duck is there any way you could do any extra things at home to increase your budget slightly to give you a tiny bit of leeway?
