We went to look at a possible venue today. I wasn't as impressed by it as I hoped I would be.

My OH has now told his best man that he's going to be his best man :)

I always wanted my three best friends as bridesmaids, and had always said previously that they would be my bridesmaids, but now it's coming down to serious planning I don't think they can be even though I really want them to be. It's just too much having to buy three dresses etc. I'm thinking about asking a cousins little daughter to be my bridesmaid instead. I hope my friends aren't going to be too upset :(

Could your friends wear a nice dress they already own? They might even be willing to buy their own as a wedding present, especially if you let them pick something they could wear again.

You could also get dresses from China considerably cheaper- I'm having four bridesmaids and the dresses are only £20 each. I was going to ask them to wear them with accessories they already own as I want them to be comfortable and not too matchy-matchy.

My friends aren't really 'dress people', so not really unfortunately :(

I'm trying to keep a beady eye on sales in case anything comes up in the right colour at the right price. It's difficult because one friend has gone abroad for a while and another is having thyroid problems so her weight is constantly fluctuating.

£20 a dress sounds fantastic, I always worry about the gamble, but there is good feedback on here about various sellers. Have you heard good feedback about where you're getting your dresses...or have you got them already?

I was also going to ask them to wear their own accessories and probably their own shoes, I also don't want them to be too matchy matchy. I've seen some lovely photos of bridesmaids in the same dress, but each with different shoes and accessories and I prefer how it looks personally. :)

Ah that's a shame! Might make it a bit easier to get different dresses in the same colour scheme? I always think that looks nice, and it's a good idea if they all have very different body shapes.

I won't be able to buy the dresses until much later as a couple of my bridesmaids go up and down in weight fairly often. The dresses do have good reviews though, and they're fairly simple with a stretchy bust so I'm hoping they'll be decent quality and fit them well!

I love how the mismatching shoes/accessories look- my bridesmaids are all really different in terms of what they like to wear, so I think having them wear some of their own stuff will keep them looking like themselves. I'm a bridesmaid myself next year and I'm hoping I get to wear my own shoes- being forced into high heels for a day would be hell for me!

Debenhams have a cracking sale on at the moment you might find something there?

    Steph xx
  • So I managed to get 50 RSVPs with envelopes for €7 postage from a wedding forum from another bride! :D Delighted with that as that will be my RSVPs done and got!

Got £10 coming back to me on Quidco as well and I'm thinking about using it to buy my guest book on the m&s website so that would make it free! :P

Trying to use my swagbucks daily as I figured, if I gave it the year, you could theoretically earn a nice little sum and it would be great to pick up some pieces knowing that they were free!! Am I mental??

In my head if its free then it doesn't have to go into the overall budget! LOL

    I just bought my dress!

I was originally going to go for a green full length gown which cost £150, but we've since moved the wedding date from summer to autumn and I wasn't sure the colour was suitable anymore. I was also a bit nervous about clashing with everything, so I decided a more neutral colour would be better. I don't want to wear white, so I had a look at silver dresses.

Much to my surprise I found a beautiful silver wedding dress on Monsoon... for £30 reduced from £85! Now that's money saving :D
  • Oh Fuzzy_duck, thats a good price!! LOL

I've a bid down on a nice guest book on eb*ay.. Hoping I get it as I set the maximum to £5. As I've £15 coming to me through cashback now, it'll be free! :D You can't beat it!

Trying to see if I can do similar with thank you cards as I know these don't have to match the invitation really and its more the gesture that counts!

After that I'm putting in all my effort into swagbucks as they give out M&S vouchers which I can use towards a cake! We decided to go for M&S cos they have a good range, are cheap enough and we can buy a taster kit beforehand as well..

I haven't really looked at dresses but our local bridal shop always does a summer clearance and I'm hoping they do a winter one as well. Going to head and try on a few dresses the next time I'm home, give them my number and tell them to give me a call when their sales are starting!

Haha, I didn't want to buy a dress so early just in case I don't fit into it nearer the time, but it was hard to say no at that price!

Free is even better :D I haven't heard of Swagbucks before, will have to check them out! I rather fancy the cheese wedding cake M&S sell (was going to try and make one myself, but it'd be so much less stress to buy it pre-made!)
  • Hi all,

I'd like to join in as we're also hoping to get married in April 2015! Seems so far away but it's only a tad over 18 months :j

We've set aside £4,000 for our 'budget boutique' wedding - two bridesmaids, one matron of honour, max 50 days guests and 50 more for the evening.

Will try any means to stick within this budget so I look forward to hearing your tips and hopefully sharing some of mine. Congrats to all B2Bs!
