Orange 'Free' Broadband

  • From Ofcom: About Us webpage...
We make sure that people in the UK get the best from their communications services and are protected from scams and sharp practices, while ensuring that competition can thrive.

Based on this Ofcom are way short. We are not getting the best from Orange/EE, they are happily engaging in sharp practice and the competition is not thriving with the recent 4G announcement.

Ofcom, an acronym for Orange Fleecing Customers On Mobile ?

Too right, but our repeated badgering of Ofcom has certainly got Orange to change their tune extend the Free Broadband to the end of current contracts (really the most we could hope for.) ....
    QUOTE]

This is not the most we could hope for as Orange/Ofcom are trying to appease with an offer that doesnt really mean much and is deflecting the issue. We were promised free broadband for life, not for the life of the mobile contract.

The T&Cs document on the Orange website is not the original. Notice it quotes "this offer was available from 26 October 2006 to 15 October 2007" so this is not what was in affect at the time but written sometime afterwards.
The T&Cs also tie the mobile & broadband together, which Orange/EE have consistently argued the opposite.

BTW who are CityPark Technologies and how did they get involved in this ?

Much as I don't want to get into this and also don't particularly like your tone.
Please read the previous 2800 posts to bring yourself up to speed, you'll find copies of everything you need including who CPT are.
I was fighting to get Orange to honour their contract, which was continuation of Free Broadband until the end of my current mobile contract.
Whilst the OFT may be looking at Free For Life offers in a number of cases not just Orange, the T&C's do state "whilst on an eligable contract" and at no point state free for life, so far we have managed to find one instance in advertising.
All they have to do at the end of the current contract is to make the eligable contract £150.00 per month and will you still be claiming your free for life broadband?
Anyway crack on and best of British to you.

    Cheers

The original terms were removed when the new offer in Oct 06 was launched.

They are a 3rd party subcontractors company employed by Orange/EE
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

Apologies if you detected any tone, this was not intended. I was just trying to say that I thought we deserved much more.
I have read many of the posts and been through the T&Cs and I don't think they stand up to scrutiny.

Ofcom should have access to all the information relating to the offer as they are legal documents. If Orange had defined Life in their T&Cs then I would be more willing to accept, but even in their later copy of this they do not clarify such an important detail.

  • Has anyone else who left Orange had there email deactivated without warning?

I left for Sky in July but Orange only just cancelled my contract, but they have also cancelled my free email address too and didn't tell me.

I have tried calling them but was on hold for over an hr so hung up, emailed them only to get an email back saying they don't answer emails, went on there online chat but no advisor came on! I am lost, i rely on my emails espically at the weekends when i do the local football league results.
  • I assume from your post that you were not using an email client like Outlook/express to download hold your emails locally and were only using the web interface?

Have just had the City Park Technologies "Customer Services" manager tell me that nobody has been offered a credit in excess of £28.00. Nobody! he was adamant about this.
To clarify things he went on to tell me no-one in Orange had the power to offer more, it was not an out sourced call centre limit.
He was also adamant that nobody has been allowed out of their mobile contract penalty free.
Please all that have, please post to the high heavens if this is not the case.
Someone is lying and I don't think it's the folk on the forum.

Defending a bad business choice by Orange I can tolerate, bare faced lying I cannot.

    Hi Nick,

I cannot take issue personally about `credits` issued by the `city park / special team` but I can say 100% honestly that I was given a cheque for £250 by the Orange exec office.

So, technically speaking he may be correct - unless others know different.

I have banked the cheque but have the email agreeing to the amount from exec office and I scanned a copy of the `remittance` letter that had the cheque as a `tear off` at the bottom so I have proof if people doubt my word - not saying that is the case but I have learnt that when it comes to dealing with Orange you can never be prepared enough !

  • Nice that you got a cheque.
After another call to exec office and complaining about lack of response I have finally been contacted by CityPark Technologies and gone through all the flannel again.
The offer confirmed in email is derisory and they are adamant that this would be in the form of credit against my account rather than a cheque !
Did anyone else get told initially they were Orange until asked to confirm email details etc and finally discovering that they were not.
This raises a potential issue of my personal data being available to a 3rd party company without my agreement ?

Any financial redress/compensation would only be credited to a accounts if you agree to such.
