  • One hour ago I had another phone conversation with Orange (01415679060 phone number). A pleasant and sympathetically sounding lady tried to convince me that it would be in my interests to switch my landline to Orange. They are planning to launch fibre optic BB in near future, which would be offered to landline customers for free. I declined politely by saying that 1) I am not interested; 2) I do not have any trust in Orange and do not want to embark on another contract with them.
The nice lady said she understand and do not want to bother me more. Instead, she said, Orange is going to honour free BB until the end of my current mobile contract - December 2013. I asked for a £100 compensation too. She said she cannot make any decision on this one, but promised to put a note and pass it on to the Sales team.
I also asked to send me a confirmation E-mail with all the details. She put me on hold briefly to consult her line manager. Came back saying that because it was an escalated complaint, she can do it. I have not got this E-mail yet. Will let you know if I do get it eventually.
  • Surely if they were going to offer fibre optic 'free' to landline customers they would have been shouting it from the rooftops?!

BT charge a lot for that on top of landline. Why would EE do different?

It will be free but some advisers aren't as good as others. I personally tell everyone about it and often I do get the response of "that couldn't be correct!" but yeah. It's a free upgrade when it comes and at no extra cost to your bill.
  • Just sent a copy of my latest Orange bill to news@moneysavingexpert.com as requested in Martin's tweet on the right. It does say "Free Orange Broadband". Can it be viewed as evidence? I don't have scanned copies of my contracts but will copy them if needed.

But no doubt I will be lambasted by the part time Perry Masons on here who think they can single handedly bring a multi-billion pound company and its corporate lawyers to its knees with their home brew legal genius.

When I refer to 'home brew Perry Mason's' - I hope no one take offence - because none is intended

It is a reminder to the poster of the above statement ;)

Good morning MrRightSA - when you say free upgrade, does that refer to free installation, but NOT free delivery of service?
We all know the ambiguity of Oranges interpretation of 'free'

We all know fibre BB is way more expensive than the ADSL service that is no longer 'financially viable' for Orange.

Also - can you confirm if there is a statement to be made re Ofcom directive - or is it 'as was' - those who shout loudest will be heard?

This reminds me of the time that SKY were offering free broadband with their TV deal some 6 or 7 years ago.

I actually signed up (wanted sky anyway) but was told the free broadband was not available in my area. But the type you pay for was??

Anyway to this very day the free type broadband is still not available availbale in my area. (6 years later)

The point being i dont believe orange will provide fibre optic & it definately wont be free.
If you live in one of the big smokes there may be a possibility but us rural folk dont stand a chance.

    Hi All,
I have been monitoring this forum with avid devotion for some time but my letter has finally arrived and prompted a new user post.

My issue is this: I have been a loyal orange customer since 2006. I joined on a 'free for life' deal as long as I had an eligible monthly contract (over £30) - still do, always have, never reduced the monthly rate below this. I am though now out of contract.
Clearly I am free to leave as both a mobile customer and broadband one but it doesn't take away the issue above.

Difficult one and especially as you are now out of contract.
The Free BB for LIFE is what many of us were promised way back in 2006 - and I was one of them - along with my second line.

They wouldn't even give me free BB for the remainder of my contract!
  • Hi all,

Just to let you know MSE is still looking into this and we are keeping an eye on this thread.

I did post a few weeks ago and some of you sent over documents, ts&cs etc stating that broadband was either 'free for life' or evidence that implied that free broadband would last indefinitely as long as you had the correct mobile phone contract (thanks to all those who did) - but if anyone else has anything from Orange to suggest this, please email me at: helen@moneysavingexpert.com

It would also really help if you can let me know where you got this evidence from ie, was it sent to you directly from Orange, or passed on from someone on this thread. Thanks.

    MSE Helen

    Hi
I have been reading through, but can you clarify the position for me.
I had the letter saying my broadband with Orange would stop if I did not change to their line rental. Is it now the case across the board or is it only the customers who have made the complaints to Ofcom etc. who will be able to continue with the 'free broadband'. Do I still have to begin the process of jumping through hoops or will they now not stop by broadband?
